The Broadband Development Office hosts monthly engagement opportunities for industry and community leaders to better inform stakeholders and encourage collaboration The Industry Broadband Roundtable meets virtually on the last Tuesday of every month at 3 p.m. The roundtables are intended to inform broadband providers, engineering firms, consultants and other entities who seek opportunities to expand broadband across the state.

Volunteers with Meridian Grassroots removed the fence around the City of Meridian’s former swimming pool on Saturday, June 17. Three volunteers – Paul Hardcastle, Andy Williams, and Michael Woerner – spent the morning deconstructing the metal, chain-link fence from their posts.

NCBC BBQ dinner fundraiser, auction set this Saturday

The National Championship Barbecue Cookoff Committee will hold its 2023 Annual Live & Silent Auction & BBQ Dinner Fundraiser at the Meridian Civic Center at 5:30 p.m. The funds raised will benefit The EpiCenter Youth Complex in Meridian.

Council approves Lions Park electricity upgrade

During its meeting on Monday, June 12, the Meridian City Council approved funds for a plan to upgrade the electricity system at Lions Park in Meridian. In addition, the accepted motion called for electricity to the park to be turned off until the upgrades were complete.

Texas Gov. Abbott vetoes bills; feud with Lt. Gov. Patrick grows

L t. Gov. Dan Patrick claimed last week that Gov. Greg Abbott is sabotaging the Senate’s work because of their ongoing feud over which approach to property tax reform is best, The Dallas Morning News reported. Abbott vetoed three bills by Sen. Paul Bettencourt, R-Houston, who has been Patrick’s point senator on increasing homestead exemptions in order to provide tax cuts. As of Friday afternoon, he had vetoed 31 bills.
