The Bosque Democratic Club invites aspiring, new, and veteran voters to attend special public gatherings at which they can educate themselves about the upcoming mid-term election in Bosque County. At the “Voting Tabletops,” folks will learn how to ensure their freedom to vote is honored this election season.

Extension Service thanks county for impact on youth

In his annual visit to Bosque County commissioners court, Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service representative Donald Kelm gave commissioners a snapshot of the impact the county’s Extension Office had on district 8 and the entire Extension Service. Kelm highlighted the success of the feral hog abatement program in only its first year, and mentioned other programs like well water testing, vines and wines, spring forage field day and the stocker cattle program.

Council reaches agreement on ‘alcohol in parks’ ordinance

After months of discussion Meridian City Council reached a decision Monday on an amendment to the ordinance regarding alcohol in the city’s open parks. The council was in disagreement about the amendment as presented, with councilmembers Jackye Hatley and Sharon Wilson unable to offer support for the ordinance.

Worthey refers to EDC for old tire clean-up

Local resident and Meridian EDC board member Fred Worthey recently bought the property formerly known as Bowman’s Tire and came before the EDC last Thursday to ask for help cleaning old tires off the approximately seven acres of property. Worthey said there were currently more than 4,000 tires on the property stored by the previous owner posing a huge fire threat that could burn for days on end.

Meridian bars sex offenders from child safe zones

Council split 3-2 on sex offender ordinance vote Meridian City Council voted Monday to adopt an ordinance that would deny access to sex offenders in and around child safe zones in Meridian. The decision was split with councilmembers Sharon Wilson and Jackye Hatley voting against the ordinance, while Mayor Pro Tem Shawn Stauffer and councilmembers Doug Davis and Meghann Giesieke all voted for the ordinance.

Local veterans visit Clifton schools as part of Fr eedom Week

As part of Celebrate Freedom Week, Members of VFW Post 8553 of Clifton visited Clifton Middle School and High School last week. David Conrad (WWII), Ken Miller (Vietnam), and Erin Baker (OIF/OEF) gave presentations to the 6th and 7th grade English classes on Sept 12 and 13, and on the 14th, John Stone (Vietnam), Jose Cano (Vietnam), Ricky Richards (Cold War-OIF) and Erin Baker made a presentation to the 8th grade English class. On the following day, Jose Cano and Ricky Richards made a presentation to the 9th grade Honors English class.
