Recent rainfall lowers fire danger for Bosque County

Bosque County EMC Kirk Turner told commissioners Tuesday that the county remained in extreme drought conditions, despite recent rains. The average KBDI was 441, though values ranged from 154 to 627, depending on the amount of rainfall in specific areas.

Commissioners disapprove BCAD budget with record vote Tuesday

After sending a letter of nonsupport to the Bosque County Central Appraisal District, commissioners took a record vote Tuesday disapproving the 2023 budget. The proposed budget of $1,046,493 included an increase of $256,656 over the current budget and added one part time and one full time employee.

Meridian Mayor Ryan Nieuwenhuis spoke to commissioners Monday about releasing ownership of Lions Park, currently owned by the county, to the City of Meridian. Nieuwenhuis said Bosque County acquired the park from the State in 1974 but it was given to the care of Meridian Lions Club through a handshake agreement in 1979.
