Zack and I recently had CT heart scans here at our local hospital---following our GP’s suggestion. This is a good tool, within 10 minutes of us and relatively inexpensive. The world’s changed a lot if I’m able to rationalize that a bill over $100 is “relatively inexpensive” --- for anything. Like being grateful when I walk out of the local grocery having spent under that same amount. Plus, don’t forget that having tests run locally adds much-needed revenue to our small, rural hospital. Using it is like an investment in our future. I’m in.

Letter to the Editor

I strongly disagree with Mr. Schenck regarding his recent Letter to the Editor wherein he proclaims that “we are all racist by inheritance.” That’s a pretty broad-brush painting of America based on the behavior of a few.

Power cycling for healthy technology

Every so often, Direct TV, internet or phone service goes out. We happily kicked our previous phone and internet provider to the curb several years ago, being completely disgusted with it. Not only does this newer company have cheaper, faster and more reliable internet, but for an extra 10 bucks a month, phone service is added--- with the same number that’s been connected to the ranch since 1940. This is cost effective, because we only keep the land line for sentimentality and emergencies ---if cell phone service should fail. We don’t usually use the house phone because the calls are almost exclusively scams.

LETTER TO THE EDITOR

Tuesday, May 25th was the first anniversary of George Floyd’s unforgettably offensive and unjustified death. His death has shown the extent of our constitution’s unmet dream of justice for all because all of us are equals. His death has awoken the secret that we are all racist by inheritance. That Mr. Floyd’s death represents over two centuries of racism in our country. That racism can no longer exist as a secret.

I was listening to a comedian lamenting the current, dismal state of comic clubs. He claimed that several years ago, performers had to be outrageously inappropriate to get laughs. Now, comics can barely speak without being lambasted for insensitivity or political incorrectness. Will the end of laughter be yet another unwelcome consequence of our current, beyond-strange political climate? Say it ain’t so!

Special session coming this fall

Texas lawmakers will adjourn the regular session on Monday — Memorial Day — but Gov. Greg Abbott has already indicated he will call a special session in the fall to grapple with redistricting after detailed census results are finally released.
