Inheriting a young and inexperienced squad in a reestablished volleyball program entering its third season, new Meridian Lady Jacket head coach Lyndsie Schur understood the challenges that would be faced ahead when she accepted the position. After opening the 2022 Texas high school volleyball season with a 25-7, 25-11, 25-11 straight set loss on the road to Bruceville-Eddy last Tuesday, the Lady Jackets hit the road once again to play in the Riesel Tournament last Thursday and Saturday.

One step at a time

After traveling to face the Bosque County archrival Valley Mills Eagles for their first scrimmage of the 2022 Texas high school football season last Friday night, the Meridian Yellow Jackets will put their team to the test in its second scrimmage and final tune-up by once again hitting to road to take on the Chico Dragons at 5 p.m. Thursday.

As much as it might seem like things are changing for the Clifton Lady Cub volleyball program, it’s really staying the same as they bump it up into the 2022 Texas high school season. After all, two seniors and six juniors return to the court to be led by former assistant Whitney Holdbrook as the new Lady Cub head coach.

Installing a new game plan

Brett Voss The Sports Buzz Sporting a new look and a new head coach, the Class 3A, Division II took on an old rival in the Class 3A, DI West Trojans for their first scrimmage of the 2022 Texas high school football season last Friday night at Cub Stadium. After winning District 7-3A, DI with an undefeated record in 2021, the West Trojans advanced to the regional finals with a perfect 13-0 record before being eliminated.

But with 21 years of coaching experience, veteran head coach and athletic director Jim Kerbow hopes to be the man to get it right this time.

This year’s edition of the magazine features two covers: one featuring Texas Tech head coach Joey McGuire, formerly head coach at Cedar Hill High School, and Texas-San Antonio head coach Jeff Traylor, formerly head coach at Gilmer High School and one featuring defending 5A Division II state champions South Oak Cliff, the first Dallas ISD school to win a state championship in football in 60 years.
