TAndARd Championship, break school record Competing at the University Interscholastic League’s Class 3A Track & Field State Championships last Thursday at Mike A. Myers Stadium on the University of Texas campus in Austin, the Clifton Cubs set two new school records and came home with some hardware for their efforts.

As far as the Meridian Yellowjacket baseball team was concerned, its season ended far too soon. But as the first Jacket squad to advance to the postseason since 2017, Meridian managed to extend the season longer than any other in six years.

Competing against the best of the best in the state of Texas, the Meridian boys track and field team will be well represented at the Class 1A State Championships this Saturday at Mike A. Myers Stadium on the campus of the University of Texas in Austin.

With the Clifton Cubs leading the way in Class 2A, Bosque County will be well represented at the University Interscholastic League Track & Field State Championships this Thursday-Saturday at Mike A. Myers Stadium on the University of Texas campus in Austin.

As the 2022-23 Texas high school athletic year approaches its conclusion, the Clifton High School student-athletes, coaches, family and friends gathered at the CISD Performing Arts Center to celebrate their many accolades and achievements. Remarkably, the Cubs and Lady Cubs boast 16 student-athletes playing five different sports, while another 19 participate in four sports programs.

For the first time in six seasons, the Meridian Yellowjackets wrapped up the Texas high school baseball season bound for the playoffs. Despite losing the District 14-1A first place playoff showdown to Jonesboro, 8-7, in a heartbreaker Monday night in Hamilton, the Jackets enter the Class 1A postseason as the district’s second place team.

Continuing what has proven to be a banner 2023 Texas high school track and field season, the Meridian boys and girls teams made their presence known at the Class 1A, Region III Championships April 28-29 at Whitney High School. “We have had a really good track season so far this year,” Meridian boys track head coach Grant Schur said.

Continuing their successful run through the 2023 Texas high school track and field season, the Clifton boys and girls teams made their presence known at the Class 3A, Region III Championships April 2829 at Midway High School in Hewitt. After taking a deep and strong contingent of 17 athletes to the regional meet, the Clifton boys placed fourth overall as a team with 35 points in the 40-team field behind regional champion McGregor with 51 points, runner-up Whitney with 50 and Hitchcock with 44.

After winning the Central Texas High School Tournament Trail’s Lake Whitney Fishing Tournament April 16, Clifton High School seniors Westen and Peyten Urbanovsky qualified for The Bass Federation’s Student Anger Federation 14th Annual High School Fishing World Finals & National Championship June 20-24 on the Mississippi River at LaCrosse, Wisconsin. To qualify for the National Championship, Central Texas High School Tournament Trail teams must finish in the top five of all teams, small schools to large schools.

By sweeping to victory in each of their final three District 14-1A games, the Meridian Yellowjacket baseball team not only secured a berth into the Class 1A playoffs for the first time since 2017, the Jackets clinched a share of their first district title since 2010. But before heading into the postseason, the Jackets (7-1 in district, 9-7 overall) must face the Jonesboro Eagles (7-1, 155) for the third time in a tie-breaker showdown for first place at 7 p.m.
