Jameson McCoy

February 12, 1976 – March 2, 2021

Jameson Van McCoy, beloved son, brother and friend, passed from this earth on March 2, 2021 after a lengthy illness.

Jamey was the son of Jarell McCoy and Katheryn Solberg McCoy and brother of Joseph McCoy. He was the grandson of Joseph and Julia Solberg (deceased) of Clifton. Jamey was born in Honolulu, Hawaii on February 12, 1976 and then his family moved to Austin in 1977. Besides a year in New Hampshire, he lived in Austin his whole life.

Jamey went to Round Rock public schools and graduated from McNeil High School in 1994. He studied at Austin Community College for two years, later graduating from Lauterstein Conway Massage School in January 2000. He worked as a massage therapist for Gregory Gym at the University of Texas for several years, as well as working from his home and in the family business, McCoy Jewelcraft, for as long as his health would allow.

Jamey had a great love of entertainment going to concerts and movies with family and friends. His love of music was expressed through his guitars and his energetic performances on the karaoke stage. Jamey also appeared as an extra in three films. Jamey enjoyed 'stumping the family' with his wealth of information about movies and stars. He also had a great love of animals and always brought home stray cats and dogs.

Another great love was his heritage from being born in Hawaii, embracing his Viking roots from Norway and Sweden, his Celtic roots from Ireland and Scotland and being an 8th generation Texan. Jamey and his family loved to travel and in addition to trips all over the state of Texas, they drove to many National Parks, explored much of the North and South West, Canada and Florida (including Disney Parks), and made many journeys to Hawaii.

Jamey was our gentle giant and will forever be missed. Jamey's ashes will be scattered at a family plot at Our Savior's Lutheran Church at Norse, buried among his ancestors dating back to his great-great grandparents who helped originally settle the area as Norwegian immigrants in the 1800's. A celebration of Jamey's life will be planned at a later date.
