Eleanor Chaffin, of Iredell, passed away on January 9, 2022, in Hamilton.

Eleanor was born August 2, 1931, in Waco, and attended school in Iredell.  Upon graduation she went two years at John Tarleton Junior College and completed her teaching degree at North Texas State University.  After graduation she married the LOVE OF HER LIFE, Nolan Chaffin, on May 31, 1952, at the home of her parents in Iredell.  She took a teaching position in Waco and when Nolan graduated from Baylor, they moved to Levelland, where their daughter Karen was born.  After Nolan’s promotion they moved to Iraan, TX, where their son Kent was born.  From there they moved to Fort Worth where she was a stay-at-home mother until her children started school.

Eleanor resumed her teaching career at White Settlement, and from there she moved to Iredell where she taught for 17 of her 30-year teaching career.

Eleanor was a beloved wife, mother, mother-in-law, granny and great granny.  She loved her family, but also her church family.  She was very involved with all aspects of FUMC of Iredell.

Eleanor’s hobbies were reading, feeding her animals (especially the birds) and helping Nolan around the farm after retiring.  Her family was the light of her life.  She loved Jamey and Roy with all her heart, but when Jack came along her heart belonged to him!

Many of her activities outside the home included the Historical Society, the Red Hats, United Methodist Women and Retired Teachers Association.

Preceded in death by her father Wm (Bill) Helm; mother Leola (Gosdin) Helm; and brother Ronnie Helm.

Eleanor is survived by her husband Nolan Chaffin, of Iredell; daughter Karen Chaffin, of Benbrook; son Kent Chaffin and wife Linda, of Iredell; grandsons Jamey Chaffin, of Iredell and Roy Chaffin, of Euless; great grandson Jack Chaffin, of San Antonio; sisters-in-law Tink Masters, of Moody and Wilma Loader, of Lampasas; and several nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers are Roy Chaffin, Jamey Chaffin, Jerry Tomlinson, Stewart Myers, Jerry Neal and Floyd Neal.  Honorary Pallbearer is Jack Chaffin.

We love her dearly and she will be missed more than words can ever say.

Memorials can be made to the First United Methodist Church Memorial Fund, P.O. Box 159, Iredell, TX 76649.
