Elaine Allen

After being a resident of Clifton for 39 years, Elaine Allen passed away Sunday, January 23, 2022, at Hillcrest Baylor Scott & White Hospital in Waco.

Her life began at the old Hillcrest Hospital in Waco 66 years, four months, and 24 days ago. Elaine fought a hard fight against COVID-19, which ultimately took her life. Funeral services were held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, January 29, 2022, at First Baptist Church with Pastor Levi Price officiating. Burial followed at Chapel Hill Memorial Park in Robinson. Visitation was held from 5-7 p.m. Friday, January 28, 2022, at Clifton Funeral Home.

Elaine is the daughter of John Eldon and Evelyn Edna Laxson Thomas. She was born in Waco, but lived all over the state of Texas, except far west Texas. Her life, as a child, revolved around where her Daddy’s employer, the Missouri Pacific Railroad Steel Gang, was assigned to work.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her oldest son, Tommy Wayne Harborth; her mother-in-law, Billy Jo Allen; and sister-in law, Carol Sue Johnson Thomas.

Surviving Elaine is her partner of 34 years and husband of 20 years, Rodrick Allen, of Clifton. She has two surviving sons, Jason Ray (JLynn) Harborth of Lampasas and Daniel Thomas (Shannon) Harborth of Clifton. Two of the loves of her life were her grandchildren, Destiny Harborth and Mason Harborth.  As the baby of her family, Elaine had an older sister, Edna Faye (John) Clark of Comanche, and a brother, William (Bill) Thomas of Marlin. Her father-in-law, Warren (Pappy) Allen lives in Clifton. Additionally, Elaine left behind an aunt and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins who she was proud to call her own. She also had several close friends who she called her “Sisters from Other Misters.”

Elaine’s family moved to New Braunfels in 1963 when she was in the third grade where she lived until moving to Clifton in 1983.

She began her working life at Old Bossy Soda Shop in New Braunfels followed by a SacNPac store manager position. After she moved to Clifton, Elaine worked at David's Supermarket, Sormrude's, Thriftmart, and Brookshires. Ultimately, Elaine worked at and retired from Texas Department of Criminal Justice after 15 years of service as a Correctional Officer and Laundry Manager.

After retirement, Elaine was able to enjoy her creative talents, travel some and look after her dogs, six miniature horses and her cats.

We, Elaine’s family, ask that you all join us in remembering the time we shared with her and celebrate her life by sharing the following quote from Canon Henry Scott Holland, a renowned 1800s Church of England Cleric.

“Death is nothing at all. I have slipped away into the next room. I am I, and you are you. Whatever we were to each other, we are still that. Call me by my old familiar name; speak to me in the easy way which you always used. Put no difference in your tone; wear no forced air of solemnity or sorrow. Laugh as we always laughed, at the little jokes we shared together. Pray, smile, think of me, pray for me. Let my name be the household word that it always was. Let it be spoken without effect, without trace of shadow on it. Life means all that it ever meant; it is the same as it ever was; there is an unspoken continuity.

What is death but a negligible accident? Why should I be out of mind because I am out of sight? I am waiting for you for an interval, somewhere very near, just around the corner.
