Clifton VFD works quickly to extinguish rooftop fire

Clifton VFD responded quickly to a call of a fire on the roof of Leon’s Floor Covering in Clifton Friday afternoon when reports of smoke were seen billowing from the top of the building.

According to owner Kim Prescher, they were unaware the air conditioning unit on the roof caught fire but thanks to a hungry patron across the street who alerted them to the smoke, they were able to call for assistance.

The fire burned through the unit and burned a hole in the attic, according to Prescher, and smoke could be detected in the storefront, but she said she was thankful for so many neighbors who were looking out for them.

Crews monitored the fire with infrared sensors Friday afternoon to ensure there were no flair-ups.
