Juneau District Judge Daniel Schally ruled Thursday, March 17 that the State of Alaska, Office of Elder Fraud and Assistance, who substituted as plaintiff for Neva Ogle (now deceased), proved their case of elder fraud against Bosque County Treasurer Carla Sue Jones Sigler and her husband Vernon James Sigler.

“The State provided the most believable, credible explanation of what occurred here,” Schally said.

After four days of testimony, Schally ordered the Siglers to repay $700,000 minus $11,500 that has already been repaid to Ogle, for a total of $688,500.

The Siglers could also be responsible for paying up to 30% of the principal for attorneys’ fees as well as punitive damages, though those briefs will be filed by the State at a later date.
