Childress Creek Water Supply announces local scholarships

Directors of Childress Creek Water Supply Corporation created a scholarship fund this past June for graduating high school students living in the water supply area. Based on contributions made over the years by two of the board’s most distinguished members, the fund was designated as the Calvin Reuter and Dr.

-Aaron Bruce Shearer, of Meridian, was arrested by BCSO Hardy on July 28, 2022, for deadly conduct discharging a firearm and deadly conduct. -Joseph Floyd Edgar, of Whitney, was arrested by BCSO Rivas on July 29, 2022, for the possession of marijuana less than two ounces and the possession of a controlled substance Penalty Group 2 less than one gram.

Fire danger remains high

Bosque County EMC and Fire Marshal Kirk Turner told commissioners Monday the drought continued throughout the county and the KBDI reached 752 Monday. A slight chance of rain was forecast for later in the week, but otherwise, Turner said the weather would most likely be a carbon copy of last week with hot and dry conditions.

Shrinking cattle herd could equal higher prices

The shrinking Texas cattle herd is likely to translate into higher calf and beef prices years beyond a break in the 2022 drought, according to a Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service expert. David Anderson, Ph.D., AgriLife Extension economist, Bryan-College Station, said Texas cattle producers have culled earlier and deeper than normal this year due to drought.

After being put on hold for two years because of COVID-19, Our Savior’s Lutheran Church at Norse is happy to announce the 72nd annual Smorgasbord will return Saturday, Nov. 12, and will begin taking orders soon.

Commissioners amend tax abatement guidelines

A public meeting was held during commissioners court Monday where the court discussed the county’s guidelines and criteria for granting tax abatements in reinvestment zones. Guidelines were developed by the county’s tax abatement specialist and were amended with suggestions.

A treat for BARK

National Championship Barbecue Cook off presented BARK with a check in the amount of $5,810.80 after their annual fundraiser dinner and silent auction. Each year NCBC selects a worthy cause to benefit from their fundraiser, and this year Chairman Byron Howard (middle) presented representatives of BARK with a donation that will go a long way to help rehabilitate and re-home dogs in Bosque County.
