Rain dampens fire threat

Bosque County EMC and Fire Marshal Kirk Turner told commissioners Monday that for the first time in a long time the county was out of immediate fire danger and more rain was expected the rest of the week. Even though Turner said the KBDI has dropped significantly, the rain had not affected enough change on the drought.

Garza appointed to Parks and Rec board

Meridian City Council met Monday where they approved the appointment of Tonya Garza to the Meridian Parks and Recreation Board. Garza, who also teaches at Meridian ISD, was recommended to take the place of former board member Jack Cameron, who submitted his resignation to the council last month.

Meridian seeing more water usage under voluntary restrictions

The City of Meridian asked water customers to follow voluntary watering restrictions beginning in July, and though the city’s public works department said during Monday’s city council meeting that the city’s water pumps were currently meeting ideal conditions, customers seemed to be using more water.

City ready for Back to School Bash Saturday

Volunteers ready an abundance of donated school supplies for Saturday’s celebration Thanks to the generosity of local businesses, churches and individuals, and abundance of school supplies was donated for the City of Meridian’s Back to School Bash, taking place in Meridian Park and Lions Park Saturday, August 20 from 4 to 8 p.m. Chamber of Commerce director Teresa McMahon said though the event was put together quickly, there was no shortage of kindness from the community.

Browning appointed to county treasurer

Acting on the decision made by jury to remove the county treasurer from office, commissioners appointed Pam Browning to fill the remainder of the term ending this year. Bosque County Judge Cindy Vanlandingham said Browning was the only applicant for the appointment and moved that the court appoint her to county treasurer..

Ahead of the new school year, Clifton ISD staff members participated in Civilian Response to Active Shooter Events and Stop the Bleed training with local law enforcement in order to provide a more safe and secure environment for students. Superintendent Andy Ball said he and Clifton Police Chief Chris Blanton had been discussing CRASE training for several months, and the district was grateful to have Hewitt Police Chief Jim Devlin give the presentation.
