Just when they needed it most, the Clifton Lady Cub volleyball program got the kind of victory it has been working hard to achieve. In convincing fashion, the Lady Cubs survived a hard-fought first set then carried the wave of momentum to a dominating sweep over the Whitney Lady Wildcats, 25-22, 25-16, 25-14, in a key District 17-3A showdown last Friday afternoon at the Clifton High School Gymnasium.

Road weary Jackets suffer buzzkill loss in Bartlett, 37-8

BARTLETT -- After lighting up the scoreboard for 42 points the previous week, the Meridian Yellowjackets appeared to be road weary in the midst of three consecutive out-of-town nondistrict games. With penalties and fumbles keeping the Jackets off the scoreboard until late in the game, the Bartlett Bulldogs scored swiftly and often, racing to an overwhelming 37-8 nondistrict victory last Friday night at Bulldog Stadium.

Cranfills Gap breaks into state’s top 25 rankings

On the strength of backto-back lopsided shutout victories, the Cranfills Gap Lions leaped into the Class 1A, Division II six-man football top 25 rankings for the first time since 2019. In the meantime, the Walnut Springs Hornets shared the top spot in the all-Bosque County District 14-1A, DII by bouncing back from a disappointing Week 2 loss for the win.

Cubs seek consistency after losing to Maypearl, 21-0

CLIFTON -- Some times, it’s over almost before it begins. Unfortunately, that fact befell the Class 3A Division II Clifton Cubs at home last Friday night. Facing the Class 3A, DI Maypearl Panthers, the Cubs were stunned by two quick touchdowns to open the non-district contest and never recovered as Maypearl coasted to a 21-0 victory.
