With four of the five Bosque County six-man football teams suffering defeats, it proved to be a rough night under the lights last Friday. But after seeing their game cancelled two weeks ago, the Iredell Dragons came back strong to post an impressive win.

MOODY – There’s no place like home. And for the Meridian Yellowjackets, it will be a welcomed sight after losing three straight games on the road.

After opening District 11-2A competition with back-to-back lopsided losses, the young and inexperienced Meridian Lady Jacket volleyball program showed some grit in posting only its second district win in more than 40 years.

McGREGOR – Despite putting up their strongest offensive effort of the season, the Class 3A, Division II Clifton Cubs could not find a way to slow down the quick strike ground attack of the Class 3A, DI McGregor Bulldogs last Friday night.

Just when they needed it most, the Clifton Lady Cub volleyball program got the kind of victory it has been working hard to achieve. In convincing fashion, the Lady Cubs survived a hard-fought first set then carried the wave of momentum to a dominating sweep over the Whitney Lady Wildcats, 25-22, 25-16, 25-14, in a key District 17-3A showdown last Friday afternoon at the Clifton High School Gymnasium.

BARTLETT -- After lighting up the scoreboard for 42 points the previous week, the Meridian Yellowjackets appeared to be road weary in the midst of three consecutive out-of-town nondistrict games. With penalties and fumbles keeping the Jackets off the scoreboard until late in the game, the Bartlett Bulldogs scored swiftly and often, racing to an overwhelming 37-8 nondistrict victory last Friday night at Bulldog Stadium.

On the strength of backto-back lopsided shutout victories, the Cranfills Gap Lions leaped into the Class 1A, Division II six-man football top 25 rankings for the first time since 2019. In the meantime, the Walnut Springs Hornets shared the top spot in the all-Bosque County District 14-1A, DII by bouncing back from a disappointing Week 2 loss for the win.

Opening district competition against a preseason favorite to advance to the playoffs never ranks as a desirable challenge for any team. For the Meridian Lady Jacket volleyball program beginning only its second district race in more than four decades, it proved to be quite daunting.

CLIFTON -- Some times, it’s over almost before it begins. Unfortunately, that fact befell the Class 3A Division II Clifton Cubs at home last Friday night. Facing the Class 3A, DI Maypearl Panthers, the Cubs were stunned by two quick touchdowns to open the non-district contest and never recovered as Maypearl coasted to a 21-0 victory.

Scheduled to play two of the perennially toughest three teams in District 17-3A to open league play, the Clifton Lady Cubs began the battle for playoff berths knowing they had a stout job lying ahead.
