Yellowjackets hold on for win over Eagles

The Meridian Yellowjackets stung Jonesboro for 10 runs in the first two frames of their game on Monday of last week and held on in the late innings for a 12-11 win. The Yellowjackets tallied eight hits in the contest, led by Matty Jones who went 3-for-3 with a pair of RBIs.

On the girls’ diamond, the ladies from Meridian fell behind early and couldn’t quite rally back in a 14-8 loss to Jonesboro on Tuesday, March 15. The loss was not without a strong effort as Meridian racked up seven hits in the contest, including multi-hit performances off the bats of America Ramirez, Canyon Stauffer and Lexie Dashner.

Cubs handle McGregor, again

The Clifton Cubs tangled with the Bulldogs of McGregor again last Friday. With the game knotted at 1-1 after two, the Cubs took the lead for good with a pair of runs in the 3rd, fueled by an RBI triple off the bat of Matthew Bronstad followed by an RBI single from Jackson Newton.

Cubs split two games with McGregor, Glen Rose

The Clifton Cubs varsity baseball squad split two games on consecutive days last week, first earning an 8-5 win over McGregor on Tuesday, and then falling to Glen Rose 19-2 on Wednesday. In the win over McGregor, the Cubs scored three times in the top half of the 7th inning to take the lead and then held on for the win.

In February, the Texas A&M Natural Resources Institute, NRI, released its Texas Land Trends program 2022 Landowner Survey to learn more about the needs, preferences, concerns and challenges landowners face regarding everyday management of their land. Now NRI would like to hear from Texas landowners again — this time, about water.

Cubs take third in District

3A Region III District 17 Clifton Cubs ended their season (Overall 24-9) (District 9-5) landing them in third place in their district. The Cubs took this team to the playoffs for the first time in 17 years.
