Lady Jackets wrap up first round of District 18-1A play in third place

After getting their first win of the season in their District 18-1A opener, the expectation of the Meridian Lady Jacket volleyball team changed dramatically. Despite losing every non-district match they played during the 2022 Texas high school volleyball season, the Lady Jackets enter each district clash expecting to win.

Rivalries revived

So when non-district schedules were filled in, the area teams arranged the annual matchups to continue.

Riding the momentum of their strong showing in the first round of District 17-3A competition, the Clifton Lady Cubs extended their win streak to three straight with a fourset victory over the Keene Lady Chargers, 25-21, 25-18, 24-26, 25-10, last Tuesday in the Clifton High School Gymnasium.

Jackets fall in Wortham

Taking the field every week as the smallest 11man football team in Texas, the Meridian Yellow Jackets have faced their challenges head on from the opening kickoff in every game during the 2022 Texas high school football season. Coming off a 49-0 loss to the Wortham Bulldogs, the Jackets will face yet another stout District 102A, Division II opponent when Meridian (0-2 in district, 0-6 overall) hosts the Dawson Bulldogs at 7 p.m.

A new coach, new program

To say the Meridian cross country team has grown would be a slight understatement, from three to more than 16 student runners. Those students meeting outside the Meridian High School at 6 a.m.

Still on course

The Clifton cross country teams’ confidence is high going into next week’s big district meet in Keene said coach Ryan Hunt. Both boys and girls teams have won first place in back-to-back meets, one in Crawford mid-September and the other last week in Moody.
