Clifton VFW Post 8553 achieves All-American status

VFW Post 8553 of Clifton has been recognized as an All-American Post by the Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United States for the 2020-2021 year. This is the highest recognition that a post can receive, and according to longtime post members, this is the first time that this post has received this award.

Fun tricks and treats in Clifton starts Thursday

Looking for thrills and chills this Halloween? Clifton has you covered. The Bosque Film Society, in association with the CLIFTEX Theatre, is hosting its first themed film festival – the Halloween Free Film Fest, which will feature six different spooky and fun movies over four days, Oct. 28-31. In addition to watching the films, movie goers can also participate in a Halloween costume contest, raffles, sing-alongs and the premiere of the Bosque Film Society’s short film, GAL MANNS SKRIK (Norwegian for “Madman’s Scream”).

Clifton Food Bank works to meet community needs

Over the past few weeks, the Clifton Food Bank has increased quantities of food items distributed to clients and have added items such as cooking oil, salt and shelf-stable milk. Although some items may be out of stock due to supply and demand, the food bank tries to stay in stock during operating hours.

‘Hissy Fit’ another hit for TBT players

The Tin Building Theatre opened their latest play, “Honky Tonk Hissy Fit,” to appreciative, sold-out crowds over the weekend at the Bosque Arts Center. The third installment in the popular “Doublewide, Texas” stage trilogy will conclude this weekend with one regular performance on Friday night, and close with a final dinner performance Saturday.

In Monday’s commissioners court meeting, the update on COVID-19 showed a steady decline. There have been six new cases reported bringing the counties total to 1,803. Sixtythree cases were active at the time. Although there has been a decline in cases, two more fatalities were reported.

Fall Carnival at Meridian Elementary

Meridian Elementary School celebrated their Fall Carnival last Friday with a fantastic turn. The festival began at the front door with free popcorn and events extended all the way around to the playground on the opposite side.
