Browning appointed to county treasurer

Acting on the decision made by jury to remove the county treasurer from office, commissioners appointed Pam Browning to fill the remainder of the term ending this year. Bosque County Judge Cindy Vanlandingham said Browning was the only applicant for the appointment and moved that the court appoint her to county treasurer..

Ahead of the new school year, Clifton ISD staff members participated in Civilian Response to Active Shooter Events and Stop the Bleed training with local law enforcement in order to provide a more safe and secure environment for students. Superintendent Andy Ball said he and Clifton Police Chief Chris Blanton had been discussing CRASE training for several months, and the district was grateful to have Hewitt Police Chief Jim Devlin give the presentation.

Texas hunting and fishing licenses now on sale

The beginning of a new hunting season is quickly approaching and the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD) reminds hunters and anglers to purchase their new licenses for 2022-23. Texas hunting and fishing licenses (except the Year-from-Purchase All-Water Fishing Package) for the current year expire at the end of August. The new licenses for the 2022-23 season went on sale Aug. 15.

Jury removes Sigler as County Treasurer

Ashley Barner Editor After a day-long trial at the Meridian Courthouse Monday, a jury of her peers decided it fit to remove Bosque County Treasurer Carla Sigler from office for the remainder of her term based on her failure to complete continuing education hours required by her office for 2021. After careful deliberations, the jury answered yes to both charges given to them by Judge Roy Sparkman, determining that Sigler both failed to complete her continuing education hours as well as acted “recklessly” or “failed and refused” to complete those hours.

Fire danger remains high through chance of rain, lightning

There has been no change in the extreme drought affecting Bosque County, but EMC and Fire Marshal Kirk Turner said there were chances of rain and lower temperatures through the week. Turner said rain could be both a blessing and a curse because the storms could produce lightning strikes that could start fires.
