TLA launches ‘Texans for the Right to Read’ group

The Texas Library Association (TLA) has launched a grassroots coalition, Texans for the Right to Read, to amplify and unify the voices of librarians, educators, parents, students, authors, and others who oppose widespread, coordinated efforts to apply subjective criteria in order to ban books across the state.

Humphries Family Scholarship Fund established

The Clifton Education Foundation received a surprise gift for Christmas this past year. Mary Woodward Humphries Hawkins –an alum of the Clifton High School Class of 1948– has generously donated $350,000 to the foundation to establish the Humphries Family Scholarship Fund.

The artwork of George Boutwell will be featured in the Atrium Gallery of the Bosque Arts Center during the month of January 2023. A reception opening the gallery show is scheduled for Wednesday, January 18, from 4 p.m.

Tax office’s registration, title system temporarily down

The Bosque County Tax Office in Meridian is unable to process vehicle registrations and titles until it resolves compliance issues. The tax office’s access to the state’s Registration and Title System (RTS) has been removed since Tuesday, December 27, 2022, according to the Texas Department of Motor Vehicles (TxDMV).

Bosque students achieve ASU’s 2022 Dean’s List

Angelo State University in San Angelo has recently released the names students achieving the Dean’s List for the 2022 fall semester. Two students from Bosque County earned spots on the list: Emelia Hyde of Meridian, Communication; and Kameron Wiese of Cranfills Gap, History Secondary Certification.

TASB prepares for Texas Legislature this year

The Texas Association of School Boards in preparing for the 88th Texas Legislature convening on Tuesday, January 10, adopted an action plan last September. TASB’s Advocacy Agenda was developed through a grassroots process of its members across 20 regions in Texas that began in early 2022.

Mental health fair slated for Jan. 26

A mental health fair will be held at Clifton High School on Thursday, January 26, 2023. This year the organizers wish to attract participants and vendors from other communities and school districts from across Bosque County.
