Area law enforcement are still searching for an individual who eluded officers during the early morning hours of Friday, June 12, 2020.
According to a report posted on the Clifton Police Department Facebook page, at approximately 3 a.m. Friday morning, CPD Officer Gage Guinn attempted to conduct a traffic stop of a white SUV that was speeding through Clifton on Hwy 6. The driver of the vehicle refused to stop and a pursuit was initiated. Deputies with the Bosque County Sheriff’s Department joined the pursuit as it continued northbound on Hwy 6 toward Meridian, turning on to West Hwy 22. Officers lost sight of the vehicle just east of Cranfills Gap near CR 4100 and the pursuit was terminated.
At approximately 4 p.m. That same day, CPD was notified that a landowner on CR 4100 had located a vehicle which had crashed in a wooded area and burned. CPD officers arrived at the scene and conducted a search of the area. Inside the vehicle, officers located a glass pipe commonly used to smoke methamphetimine. The vehicle was removed by Charlie’s Wrecker Service and taken to the impound where investigating officers were able to better examine the vehicle.
The license plate and VIN plates were destroyed in the fire but officers were eventually able to access the engine compartment and locate the VIN that was stamped there.
Using the VIN, officers determineed the vehicle was rented from Hertz Rent-A-Car sometime ago and had not been returned at the end of the rental agreement.
CPD was later notified that the same vehicle was involved in a pursuit earlier in the evening in McLennan County with Waco Police Department, Baylor Police Department and McLennan County Sheriff’s Office units pursuing.
The case remains under investigation.
