Continuing his role as a leader among rural hospitals in Texas, Goodall-Witcher Healthcare President and CEO Adam Willmann was elected the board chairman of the Texas Organization of Rural and Community Hospitals (TORCH) recently.

At the annual membership meeting held virtually for the first time on April 14, the TORCH membership approved by acclamation nominating committee recommendations to elect Adam Willmann board chair and Christy Frances of Hemphill County Hospital District in Canadian vice chair upon retirement of Donna Boatright if Rolling Plains Memorial Hospital in Sweetwater on June 12.

“It will be hard to fill the void that has been left by Donna Boatright’s retirement, but I am excited for her new adventure,” Willmann said. “Her leadership and friendship will be truly missed.”

Willmann will serve a twoyear term with a distinct purpose as TORCH pursues a mission to be the voice and principal advocate for the 157 rural and community hospitals in Texas and provide leadership in addressing the special needs and issues of these hospitals.

“I am very honored and proud to serve the members of TORCH,” Willmann said. “It has been a dream of mine ever since I attended my first TORCH Conference in the spring of 2007. I look forward to using the role as an advocate for rural healthcare as we move into these new uncharted waters and to further our mission.”

TORCH provides advocacy to elected officials and governmental/ regulatory entities on rural and community health issues; develops specialized programs, education, activities and services for rural and community hospitals; and supports local access and delivery of health care service to the community residents and leverages the collective power of rural hospitals.

Working as an integrated organization, TORCH envisions the development of new services that will benefit rural hospitals, embracing everything from staff education to the funding of technological improvements. Meanwhile, TORCH serves as the only clear voice that speaks for just rural hospitals in Texas.

With that, TORCH takes a place on the national stage, serving both as a model of rural hospital organization and an effective voice in our nation’s capital for rural health care here and elsewhere. The mission of TORCH has always been to preserve rural and community hospitals in Texas so that healthcare can remain local.
