Clifton boys capture control

In dramatic fashion, the Clifton Cubs boys basketball team took control of sole possession of fourth place in the District 19-3A platyoff race, then the flu bug put everything on hold last week.

By winning back-to-back District 19-3A games against Troy and Bruceville-Eddy two weeks ago, the Cubs boys basketball team battled its way right back into the race for the league’s final playoff berth.

Then last Tuesday night, Clifton held off Marlin in the fourth quarter to secure a crucial 34-31 victory. Senior Santos Murillo led the Cubs (5-5 in district, 14-14 overall) with 12 points and nine rebounds, while sophomore Mason Brandenberger tossed in 10 points and senior Fisher Pitts added nine.
