CRANFILLS GAP — Despite the Lions’ 50-0 loss to the Iredell Dragons during the homecoming game, at halftime the spirits were high as seven young ladies were escorted on the field during the annual homecoming celebration. Ashley Sorenson, a senior and captain of the cheerleaders, was crowned the 2009 Homecoming Queen by the 2008 Queen, Monica Olvera. Following the ceremony, cheerleader Ana Olvera was honored as the Lions Sweetheart, and Ethan Arjon (83) was honored as the Cheerleaders’ Beau.
The game opened with the singing of the National Anthem by Ashley Sorenson, but quickly fell to the Iredell Dragons as they made a late-quarter touchdown in the first quarter, then halfway through the second quarter completed another for a 12-0 score at the half.
Following the halftime celebration, the grid match-up was all the Dragons, as they racked up the points with three touchdowns in both the third and fourth quarters for the win.
