CLIFTON — At a recent Universal Cheerleaders Association cheer camp in Austin, held at the University of Texas, June 25-28, three varsity cheerleaders were named to the All-American team, including Taylor Rueter, Hanna Outlaw, and K’Leigh Bedingfield. Jennifer Ford of the JV cheerleading squad was also named to the All-American team. The full varsity squad was a awarded as a blue superior squad, having received only blue ribbons for their performances. The Middle School received both red excellent ribbons, along with blue superior, and received the most improved award. Evaluations of the cheerleading squads were based on sideline chants, cheers, an extreme routine, and game day situations. Cockrell noted that the Clifton squads learned some new things, and they hope to really fire up the fans during football season. Varsity students named to the All-American team have a chance to perform in the New Year’s parade in London, however, the expense of the trip is prohibitive, said sponsor Stacey Cockrell. She is hoping to be able to take the full squad to one of the bowl games in Orlando, to which they have been invited, but noted that they will need a lot of support from the community and from business sponsors to be able to make the trip.
