WASHINGTON, D.C. — U.S. Representative Chet Edwards voted Tuesday, June 30, against H.R. 2454, the so called “cap and trade” energy bill. He released the following statement: “I voted against the energy cap and trade bill, because I am concerned it could increase gasoline and utility costs for families, farmers, and businesses during tough economic times. Addressing global warming is a laudable goal, but I respectfully disagree with President Obama and Speaker Pelosi on this bill and believe it could cost jobs and hurt the economy, especially in oil, gas and coal producing states such as Texas.” Despite Rep. Edwards belief in voitng “no,” the House did pass the legislation on Tuesday, which opponents contend would result in the highest tax increase in history.
