CLIFTON — Clifton’s First Presbyterian Church, located at 211 S. Ave. G, will be taking on a new look in the weeks to come. Construction has begun to remodel and enlarge the current church facility. The last church services prior to the construction project were held on Nov. 15. The congregation hopes to return to the remodeled church by April of next year. During the construction and building project, the congregation will temporarily gather each week for worship service at Clifton Civic Center, 403 W. 3rd Street, according to the Rev. Clint Schofield. Times for Sunday school and worship will remain 9:30 and 11 a.m., respectively. Middle school and high school Sunday school classes will continue to be held in the Presbyterian Place on Hwy. 6. First Presbyterian Church is the oldest Bosque County congregation in continuous service. The church was founded in January 1861 about two miles from present-day Clifton. The church moved to its current location on Hwy. 6 in 1904. The present church facility was dedicated in 1961. The new church project will enlarge the existing sanctuary. The kitchen and fellowship hall will more than double in size, while new classrooms and two entrances are also in the plans. The construction project is being headed by Siebenlist Group, a Tyler-based architectural firm specializing in church construction and renovation projects.
