Bean Takes Bosque County Hay Show Championship Print E-mail

   HAY SHOW WINNERS — Some of the Bosque County Hay Show winners were (from left) Ray Miller, Charlie Stevens, Charlie Aars, three representatives of Bar G Ranch, and Jim Davis.  — Staff Photo By Carol Spicer CLIFTON — Kevin Bean’s Sudan hay, bale #120, took the 31st Bosque County Hay Show championship and sold at auction for $1,400 to Robert Senter, Bosque Supply, and Whitney Underground Utilities — all in support of youth scholarships for Bosque County students.

The hay show barbecue meal, cooked up by the Go Texan committee, kicked off the evening events at the H.E. Building at the fairgrounds in Clifton on Saturday at 4:30 p.m.

Clifton High School ag instructor Stacy Dillard welcomed everyone. A program on the Middle Trinity Groundwater Conservation District and registration forms were handed out by Joe Cooper, general manager. Following the informational program, he answered a variety of questions from ranchers and farmers concerning wells and registration. Kenneth Schrank and David Winkler recognized the hay show winners, prior to Jerry Smith kicking off the auction of hay.

Class champions are as follows: Robert Payne, small grains; Kevin Bean, Sudan; Charlie Aars, kleingrass; Charlie Stevens, bermudagrass; Faye Prause, improved bermudagrass; Bar G Ranch, native and other; and Ray Miller, legumes.

Taking class reserve champion honors were Robert Payne, small grains; Kevin Bean, Sudan; Steve Vaderman, kleingrass; Faye Prause, Bermudagrass; Ray Miller, improved Bermudagrass; Raymond Whitney Farms, native and other; and Jim Davis, legumes. It was noted during the evening, that the first annual Bosque County Hay Show event took place in the same building at the fairgrounds in Clifton in 1978. It was also reported that the first show only raised $1,000 towards scholarships.

Current total of scholarships, prior to the 2009 show, is $110,000 awarded to Bosque County students over the years.

Throughout the event, a variety of door prizes were handed out to guests at the dinner.
