CLIFTON — The 2009 Bosque County Hay Show will be held at the Home Economics Building (green) at the Central Texas Fairgrounds in Clifton on Saturday Oct. 24, beginning at 4:30 p.m., according to Sara Ripley and Stacy Dillard of Clifton, co-chairpersons of the Hay Show Committee.

Guest speaker will be Joe Cooper, general manager of the Middle Trinity Groundwater Conservation District – Bosque, Comanche and Erath counties. Cooper will discuss “What is Next” – What do Bosque County landowners need to be expecting? How will this be implemented?”

Bosque County voters approved joining the Middle Trinity Groundwater Conservation District earlier this year. Three new temporary directors were appointed for Bosque County on July 13. These directors will serve until May of 2011, at which time all three seats will be up for election and positions will be staggered to two- or four-year terms. Temporary directors are Alan Day of Kopperl, Barbara Domel of Meridian, and Bobby Joe Conrad of Clifton.

Hay show activities will begin with a barbecue meal served by the Bosque County Go Texan Committee beginning at 4:30 p.m., followed by the program by Cooper at 6 p.m. Tickets for the barbecue meal will be available at the show for $5.

Following the program, the 31st Annual Bosque County Hay Show winners will be recognized and the scholarship auction, which supports youths of Bosque County, will be held. To date, 180 scholarships for $110,000 have been awarded to Bosque County high school seniors.

The annual Bosque County Hay Show is sponsored by the Bosque County Hay Show Committee, Bosque Soil and Water Conservation District and the Texas AgriLife Extension Service - Bosque County.
