Graveside services for Tandy John Howeth, 87, of Clifton, will be held Saturday, July 4, 2009, at Boggy Cemetery at 10 a.m. Visitation will be Friday, July 3, from 6 to 7 p.m., at Clifton Funeral Home. Howeth was born Oct. 19, 1921, in Mexia to Ulysses and Elizabeth Howeth. He passed away on Tuesday, June 30, surrounded by his loving family at Goodall-Witcher Hospital. He was a member of the First Methodist Church in Hillsboro. He married Mary Lillian Burnett on April 26, 1939. They were married for 69 years. Howeth served in the United States Navy, then worked as a foreman and heavy equipment operator for Stimpson Construction Company before retiring in 1983. Preceding him in death were his wife, Mary Lillian Howeth; a son and daughter-in-law, Richard (Sonny) and Mary Howeth; son, Ronnie Howeth; and son-in-law, James (Doc) Johnson. Survivors include his daughters, Barbara Solberg and husband, Jerry, of Clifton, and Sandy Cortez and husband, Milton, of Clifton; three grandsons, Jimmy and DeeAnn Compton of Clifton, Tommy and Roxanna Compton of Clifton, and Trey and Stehanie Cortez of Arlington; four granddaughters, Lisa and Ken Woosley of Iredell, Tina Cortez of Clifton, Shelley and Randy Cox of Waxahachie, and Michelle of Belle County; along with several great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren. Clifton Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
