Cubs football draws Tucker Award

In front of a full house on Friday night, Brice Cherry of the Waco Tribune Herald presented the 59th Annual Jinx Tucker Memorial Award to the Clifton High School football team, saying that the team had truly exhibited all the requisites for the award.

Lady Cub softball hosts tourney

The Lady Cubs softball team will host its annual Softball Tournament beginning with Pool Play at 9 a.m. on Friday, under the direction of the new Head Softball Coach Sam Canfield. In Pool 1 will be Clifton, Meridian, Troy JV, and Rio Vista; and in Pool 2, Glen Rose, Hico, San Saba and Troy

Riding an eight-game winning streak, the Meridian Lady Jackets girls basketball team stands on the brink of claiming at least a share of the District 17-2A title. But in the regular season finale this Tuesday, the Bosqueville Lady Eagles will have something to say about that. Last week, the Lady Jackets did what they had to do, knocking off Bosque County arch rival Valley Mills handily, 51-32, on the road last Tuesday before dismantling Waco Rappaport, 54-26, at home Friday night.

Cubs knocked out of playoff chase

Despite giving two of the best three teams in District 19-3A all they could handle last week, the Clifton Cubs boys basketball team walked away eliminated from post-season possibilities. After a fourth quarter rally fell short last Tuesday as the Cubs fell to second-place Teague, 54-48, Clifton could not overcome a slow start Friday as West handed the Cubs (2-9 in district,
8-17 overall) their fourth straight loss, 58-45..

Powerlifters place at Moody Invitational

On Saturday, Jan. 24, the Clifton powerlifting teams competed at the Moody Invitational meet with the following results.
The Cubs competing included: Isaack Santillan, 114 lb. class, 675 lb. total, second; Robby Brewer, 123 class, 685 total, fifth; Emiliano Mar, 132 class, 820 total, third; Daniel Chavez, 165 class, 1045 total, eighth; Josh Lucas 181 class, 975 total, 11th;
Jordan Larance, 198 class, 1115 total, sixth; and Shane Bruno, 198 class, 1000 total, 13th..

Lady Jackets hang on to first

Extending their winning streak to six straight game, the Meridian Lady Jackets hung onto their share of the District 17-2A  ead. But it wasn’t easy. Coming off their huge win over previously undefeated Crawford to open the second round of district, the Lady Jackets came out flat against Axtell last Tuesday to dig themselves into a hole.

Clifton boys struggle once again

As the Clifton Cubs boys basketball team made the turn into the second round of District 19-3A competition, they experienced a bit of deja vu. Struggling through back-to-back losses last week, the Cubs repeated the troubled they saw in the first round.

Lady Jackets tie for first place

After winning four consecutive games to close out the first round of District 17-2A competition, the Meridian Lady Jacket girls basketball squad picked up right where they left off. But this time around, they did something they weren’t able to do before. Facing first place and undefeated Crawford on the road last Friday, the Lady Jackets played three impressive quarters then  hung on for dear life to knock off the Lady Pirates, 56-54, and grab a share of the district lead.

Lady Cubs split two again

The Clifton Lady Cubs girls basketball team came out strong and dominated the Lady Eagles of Bruceville-Eddy throughout the game on Tuesday, Jan. 20, winning 48-20. The Lady Cubs took the first half 31-6, and followed through the second half with strong playing.
