Walnut Springs’ Tony Chavez looks for room.
By Brett Voss

While it didn’t look good at halftime, when it was all said and done, the Walnut Springs Hornets had plenty to celebrate on their homecoming night last Saturday. But it didn’t start off that way. In fact, Walnut Springs found themselves trailing by two points going into the locker room at halftime. But following a furious second half offensive assault, the Hornets posted a solid 70-38 victory over Mount Calm in their final non-district contest.

Meridian Physicals

The Meridian Yellowjacket football players will take their first step toward preparing for the 2013 Texas high school football season when the Clifton Medical Clinic offers free physicals Thursday from 5-7:30 p.m.

And then in just a little over two weeks, the Jackets will open their pre-season two-a-day workouts Aug. 5.

As a courtesy to all student athletes in the county, the Clifton Medical Clinic will provide athletic physicals free of charge as all incoming seventh, ninth and 11th graders will need one to participate in UIL sports during the 2013-14 school year.

"It's a service provided by the Clifton Medical Clinic for area kids and we get the word out," Meridian football head coach and athletic director Todd Doughty said. "We appreciate their efforts in helping our kids and local families with the cost."
