Bragging rights

By Brett Voss.

Last week started well for the Meridian Yellowjacket boys basketball team. But what begins well does not always end well, and such proved to be the case for the Jackets. After an emotional high as they stormed pass their Bosque County Class 2A counterpart Clifton, 54-35, in convincing fashion last Tuesday night, the Jackets were flat and struggled in the highly-competitive Hamilton Tournament last weekend.

Clifton places four on all-district team

By Brett Voss.

Although the Clifton Cubs battled for a playoff berth until the final gun of the 2013 Texas high school football season, it proved to be a matter of too little, too late. And in the process, their season came to an early and abrupt end for the eighth straight season. But their efforts to battle back and stay alive despite losing the first six games of the season did not go unrewarded. When the District 12-2A, Division I all-district selcetions were announced recently, the Cubs placed four players on the first-team, earned three second-team selections, and drew three honorable mentions.

By Brett Voss.

After the weather wreaked havoc on the Bosque County events calendar, the Meridian boys and girls basketball teams go back to work this week with busy schedules before heading into the holiday season. The freezing temperatures and ice forced the cancellation of the Jackets’ scheduled game against Chilton last Friday following a last-second loss to state-ranked Coolidge last Tuesday. After visiting Class 2A Clifton Tuesday night, the Meridian boys (2-4) will play in the Hamilton Tournament Thursday-Saturday.

After making the Class 1A playoffs for the second time in the last three season, the Meridian Yellowjackets were rewarded for their efforts as the District 9-1A, Division II runnerups. Jackets push for next level

By Brett Voss.

When looking at their 2013-14 non -district schedule, the Meridian Yellowjakcets boys basketball team certainly has its job cut out for it. After the experience gained from last season’s playoff appearance, Jacket head coach Tim Berg maintains high hopes for his squad’s season. With six returning lettermen, it’s easy to see why. But the Jackets also remain painfully aware of the fact that to be able to compete in the tough District 12-1A, Division I, Meridian will have to be at the top of their game.
