The name of the annual meet may have changed from the Straight A Relays to the Jackets Relays, but for the Meridian boys and girls track teams, the results remained the same. Despite a tougher field accepting Class 2A teams for the first time, the Lady Jackets won the team championship with 165.5 points, outscoring runnerup Cross Plains with 145.5, while Italy finished a distant third with 72.

Meridian hosts Jacket Relays

By Brett Voss.

After taking Spring Break off from competing in meets, the Meridian boys and girls track and field teams will return to action Saturday when they host their annual meet. But instead of holding the 16th Annual Straight A Relays, Meridian High School will host the first Jacket Relays at Jacket Stadium in its place. Unable to fill a weekend track meet with Class A teams, Meridian coaches decided to open the meet up to other classification for the first time ever.

Turning The Corner

By Brett Voss.

While everyone else enjoyed a brief vacation for Spring Break, the Meridian Lady Jackets softball team remained hard at work. And in the process, the Lady Jackets opened District 12-1A competition by splitting two important games against Goldthwaite and Hico. After losing to Goldthwaite, 7-3, on the road last Tuesday, the Lady Jackets rebounded to squeeze by Hico, 5-4, last Friday at home. Despite the district opening loss to Goldthwaite, the team remained positive.
