Estella Thiele

Funeral services for Estella Thiele, 83, of Valley Mills, were held Tuesday, Dec. 23, 2014, at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church at Norse with Pastor Ruth Hetland officiating. Estella Marie Gaskamp was born on July 30, 1031, in Mosheim, to Albert and Annie Hoverland Gaskamp. She passed away at Goodall-Witcher Nursing Facility on Saturday, Dec. 20. She attended schools in Concord, TN and at Mosheim. On Nov. 11, 1950, she married Carl Thiele at the Bismark Lutheran Church. The couple had five children. She was a housewife and had lived in the Clifton area. She enjoyed gardening, sewing and quilting. She was preceded in death by her husband, Carl; a son, Marvin; her parents; and three brothers and two sisters.

Elenore Hulda Wiede

Memorial Services were held for Elenore Hulda Wiede, 95, on Sunday, Dec. 28, 2014 at Zion United Church with the Rev. Buck Malone officiating. Elenore Hulda Wiede was born on Oct. 13, 1919 to Louis A. and Anna Thiele Eckert in the Cayote community of Bosque County. She passed away Dec. 25, 2014. She was baptized in St. John’s Evangelical church near Cayote on April 2, 1920 by Reverend Theo Pfundt and had her faith confirmed in the same church on April 8, 1934 by Reverend George Diehm. In 1946 she became a member of Zion United Church of Christ in Womack when the two churches merged. She was active in many church activities, especially in the women’s ministry. When the church was compiling a record of its history, she wrote the portion on The History of Saint John’s Evangelical Church, which is on display at Zion UCC. Elenore attended elementary school in Cayote and graduated from Clifton High School in 1936.

Nancy Hardwick Burch

Nancy Hardwick Burch, age 88, of Valley Mills passed away in a Clifton Nursing home Thursday, Dec. 18, 2014. Funeral services were held Sunday, December 21, 2014, at the Valley Mills First Baptist Church. Interment will be at the Valley Mills Cemetery under the direction of Foss Funeral Home and Cremation Center. Memorials may be made to the Valley Mills First Baptist Church. Nancy Lee Hardwick Burch was born on May 28, 1926 in Abilene, Texas. She was welcomed into the family of Chester and Era Mae Perkins Hardwick by her older sister, Dorothy Jean. Her younger sister, Sarah Lou, completed the family two years later. Nancy attended Valley Mills High School where she was a straight A student. Nancy met Homer Louis (Red) Burch and they married in 1950. They lived in various cities in Texas, moving with Red’s work with the Santa Fe Railroad. Their son, James Douglas (Doug) Burch was born during this time. Nancy became a military wife after Red reenlisted.

Alice Faye Rude

Alice Faye Rude went home to be with her Savior on December 12, 2014. She was 73 years old, and had struggled with stoke related health issues over the past 2 years. Alice was born on December 18, 1940 in Clifton, Texas. She grew up in Clifton and graduated from Concordia Junior College in Austin, Texas and then earned a bachelor’s degree in Christian Education from Concordia Teachers College in Seward, Nebraska. She started her teaching career in Wilson, Texas and was soon married in McAllen, Texas in July of 1967. After marriage she moved to West Chester, Ohio when her husband found employment as an accountant in the steel industry. They moved back to Texas in 1975 after the birth of their son and death of her father. Once back in Texas, Alice raised her son and kept busy by teaching kindergarten and her passion, first grade, in Lutheran schools in the Dallas area. Alice was also an avid gardener and enjoyed raising horses on the family’s 6 acres in Midlothian Texas.

Cary Duston Hinson

Cary Duston Hinson, 45, of Lebanon, formerly of Morgan, Texas, died Wednesday, Dec. 10, 2014, in Lebanon, Missouri. He was born on March 28, 1969, in Fort Worth, Texas, and was preceded in death by his mother, Charlotte Meador of Morgan. Cary graduated from Morgan ISD in 1987. He was in retail sales for many years and was a former Marine. Survivors include a son, Duston Hinson; a daughter, Caytlyn Hinson; and their mother, Danielle Turcotte, all of Murfreesboro, Tenn.; his father and stepmother, Woody and Sharon Hinson, of Fort Worth, Texas; a sister, Allison Crawford, of Waco, Texas; nephews Tyler Hinson-Bible and Nicholas Hinson, both of Meridian; also other relatives and friends. Services for Cary Duston Hinson will be held at a later date. His body is to be cremated under the direction of Shadel’s Colonial Chapel of Lebanon.

Gerald Ray Solberg

Gerald Ray (Farmer) Solberg, 66, of Gatesville, passed away Dec. 9, 2014 in a Temple hospital. A Memorial Service was held Sunday, Dec. 21,2014 at The Boots and Saddle Cowboy Church, in Gatesville with Jess McCabe officiating. Gerald Solberg was born on April 25, 1948. Memorials may be made to The Cowboy Church in Gatesville or Friends of the Junior Livestock Show Boosters, in care of Kevin Lilley 1400 Woodcock Waco, Texas 76706. Memorial services were entrusted to the care of Oak Crest Funeral Home, Waco.

June Hanna Wagaman

June Hanna Wagaman, age 64, of Valley Mills passed away at her residence Sunday, Dec. 14, 2014, after a short illness. Memorial services were held Saturday, Dec. 20th at the Valley Mills First Baptist Church under the direction of Foss Funeral Home and Cremation Center. Memorials may be made to the Wortham Bend Cemetery Association. June was born on Feb. 14, 1950, in Ft. Worth, the daughter of J. N. and Lois (Hardison) Hanna. She married John Wagaman in December of 1996. June owned her own beauty salon in Waynesboro, PA before moving to Valley Mills in 2006 where she was a beautician. She had worked in the Valley Mills and Waco area for the past several years. Survivors include her husband, John of Valley Mills, two sons, William Gates and James Gates both of Pennsylvania, a brother, Mark Hanna and his wife, Ali of Valley Mills; and four grandchildren.

Kenneth Cooper

Kenneth Cooper passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family, on Saturday, Dec. 13, at Baylor Scott & White Hillcrest Hospital in Waco. He suffered a stroke in October of 2013 and despite his hard work and some progress toward recovery, succumbed to a rapidly developing case of pneumonia. enneth was born at Iredell, Texas on Feb. 22, 1928. He graduated from Iredell High School in 1945, John Tarleton College at Stephenville in 1947, and Texas A&M in January 1949, at the age of 20. To put himself through college he worked a great variety of jobs, including one very hot Texas summer of digging foundations for the building of Highway 22 between Meridian and Whitney Dam. Cooper was baptized during his youth at Spring Creek Baptist church outside Iredell. Following his marriage he attended the Methodist Church and taught the Men’s Class at Kopperl United Methodist church for several years. At his request, there will be no funeral or memorial service.

Guss Willard Eoff, Jr.

Guss Willard Eoff, Jr., age 91 of Meridian, passed away Tuesday afternoon, Dec. 9, 2014, at his residence near Meridian. Funeral services were held Sunday, Dec. 14, 2014, in the Meridian Church of Christ with Minister John Moore officiating. Burial was in the Meridian Memorial Cemetery. Pallbearers were Sean Eoff, Shannon Eoff, Dart Hyde, Tim Talley, Bryan Ramsey, and Jason Strawser. Guss was born March 7, 1923, in Ft. Worth, Texas, and was raised in southern California. He was a son of Guss W. Eoff, Sr. and Minnie Frances Ware Eoff. On Feb. 22, 1942, he was united in marriage to Ila Laline “Lily” Norris in Huntington Park, California. To this union one son was born, Larry, also a Gospel preacher. Guss began preaching in 1942. Guss attended Pepperdine College and Southwest State Teachers College. He received his Doctor of Ministry in 2000. Guss had preached in local congregations in California, Oregon, Texas, Oklahoma, Louisiana, North Carolina, and Missouri.

Marvin Eugene Fossett

Marvin Eugene Fossett, 93, passed away on Dec. 5, 2014 in Clifton, Texas. The funeral was held Monday, Dec. 8, at the First Baptist Church where Marvin had been a faithful member since 1936, with Dr. Jerry Smith officiating. Military graveside services will be in the Clifton Cemetery located on Hwy 6. The funeral was under the direction of Clifton Funeral Home. Marvin was born in Clifton, on Oct. 12, 1921 to George L. Fossett, Sr., and wife, Ida Otterson Fossett. He was blessed with three brothers, George L Fossett, Jr., Calvin Fossett and Frank Fossett. Marvin had a childhood filled with good memories of his family, friends and school days. He graduated from Clifton High School in 1941. He enlisted in the Air Force in May of 1943. He received his training at Camp Wolters, Mineral Wells, and special training in aircraft gunnery training in Las Vegas, Nevada. He was promoted to T-Sergeant, went overseas in July of 1944. He served as a turret gunner on B-17. He flew on 13 missions.
