Susanne Bradley Stockard

Susanne Bradley Stockard, 60, went to be with her Lord and the angels on Oct. 9, 2014 in Houston, after a year-long battle with cancer. Susanne and husband David Stockard, who grew up in Meridian, had  already partially moved to a family home in Meridian for retirement, but the cancer delayed the final move. Funeral services were held at Mission Bend United Methodist Church on Tuesday, Oct. 14. Burial was in Meridian Cemetery on Wednesday, Oct. 15. Susanne so much had looked forward to life in the country and sitting in the backyard, with her pug dogs. She was a Christian from a long-time Methodist ministerial family and was confident that she was going to be with her Lord and the angels, having seen the bright lights and angels in her dreams. She was ready. Susanne was born on Nov. 30, 1953 in Shreveport, LA to Osborn Walker Bradley, Jr. and Edna Floreine Crater Bradley. She attended Captain Shreve High School in Shreveport, graduating from Spring Woods High School in Houston.

James Arthur Guinn

James Arthur Guinn, born Aug. 1, 1945 in Meridian, to parents Arthur and Billie (Smith) Guinn, passed away Oct. 31, 2014 in Iredell Texas. James also known as J.A. and Zero, loved hunting, fishing, flying remote controlled airplanes and oil painting. J.A. was preceded in death by his parents Arthur & Billie Guinn. J.A. is survived by wife Sandra Guinn, son; Eddie Guinn and wife Marla, daughter; Amy VanWinkle and husband Gary, brothers; Danny Guinn and wife Betty and Chuck Guinn and wife Cheryl, five grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, several nephews, nieces and cousins and numerous friends. Funeral services were held Monday Nov. 3, 2014, at Harvest Hills Funeral Home in Hico with burial to follow at Mitchell Cemetery, Iredell.

Billy Don Price

Billy “Bill” Don Price, 78, of Laguna Park went to be with the Lord on Oct. 31, 2014, at Providence Hospital in Waco. There will be a Celebration of Life Memorial at Riverside Baptist Church in Meridian. A meal will be served for the family from 11-12 on Nov. 8, 2014, the memorial will follow at 1 p.m. Bill Price was born on Jan. 18, 1936, in Peacock, Stonewell County, Texas. He retired from Chemical Lime in 2001 with 15 years of service. He worked for the Sweetwater Fire Department in 1964; served six years in the National Guard; two years in the Army Reserves; and spent time in the Army. He loved playing guitar, singing, and had a band for 25 years. For the last three years he was very active in his family church. He loved to teach his church family members how to play the guitar. He was preceded in death by his father, Allen Jackson Prince, mother, Hazel Inez Agnew Price; brother, Denver Price and two nephews, Darryl Price and Sterling Lofton.

Gary Don Holt

Funeral services for Gary Don Holt were held Saturday, Oct. 25, 2014, at the First Baptist Church in Clifton, with Pastor Dr. Jerry Smith conducting the service. Burial followwd in the Smith Bend-Coon Creek Cemetery. Gary Don Holt was the second of three sons born to John “Buster” Holt and Ruby Lee Wallace Holt. He was born on Dec. 12, 1947 in Clifton. He grew up on a farm in the Smith Bend area that has been in his family since 1873. He was baptized at the First Baptist Church of Clifton as a youth. He graduated from Clifton High School in 1966. He graduated from Hill Jr. College and attended UTA for a year before going to work for Duggan Trailer Company in Groesbeck. In 1969, he went to work for the Chemical Lime Company. He worked there until 1978, when he returned home to work on the family farm. He married Teresa Atlas on Nov. 20, 1976. The couple made their home on the family farm. Two children were born to this marriage, Kilee in 1979 and Raymond in 1982.

Jean Orfield

Jean Orfield, age 77, of Meridian, passed away early Saturday morning, Oct. 18, 2014, in a Fort Worth hospital. Funeral services were held Tuesday, Oct. 21, 2014, in the Lighthouse Baptist Church of Meridian, with the Rev. Charles Collett officiating. Graveside services were held Wednesday, Oct. 22, 2014, at the Crown Hill Memorial Park, Dallas. She is survived by her daughters, Lisa Orfield of Frisco and Lori Smith and her husband, Mike, of Morgan; granddaughter, Kadi Smith of Morgan; sisters, Fredna McCutcheon of Irving, Polly Cowsertt of Junction and Perry Bedair of Highland Village; number of nieces, nephews, and other relatives. She was preceded in death by her parents, Fred Otto Pilant and Elma Francis Knight Pilant; and a sister, Betty Jo Neighbors. Roy L. Owen

Roy L. Owen, age 87, of Granbury, passed away early Thursday morning, Oct. 23, 2014, in a Ft. Worth nursing facility. Graveside funeral services were held Saturday, Oct. 25, 2014, in the Meridian Cemetery with Aaron Kenagy officiating. Roy was born Aug. 7, 1927, in Meridian, Texas. He was a son of the late Willis C. Owen and Ethel Durham Owen. He was raised in Meridian where he graduated from high school. At the age of 16, he moved to Ft. Worth to work. He started as a welder and worked up to become a foreman, production superintendent and then vice-president of Mid-Texas Mfg. Company. In 1980 he and a partner opened R-O Mfg. Co., a sheet metal fabrication plant. In 1987, Roy retired and moved to Granbury in 1989 Roy was united in marriage to Dorothy Josey on Feb. 18, 1949, in Weatherford. He was a member of the Granbury First United Methodist Church. He is survived by his wife, Dorothy, of Granbury; daughter, Teresa Pels and her husband, Billy, of Ft.

Jessie M. Smith

Jessie M. Smith passed away into the arms of His Lord on Monday, Oct. 20, 2014 in Denver, CO. Interment will be in Bandera, TX. Smith was born in Ardmore, OK on Sept 18, 1944. He was 70 years old when he passed away. Jessie loved the ocean so he became a crewmember at the age of 13. He did this for 45 years. He is survived by his sister, Betty Lee Smith of Walnut Springs; her children, Shelilah (James) Dean, Chris (Tonya) Croy, Clifton (Stephanie) Croy, Casey (Clara) Croy; and great neices and nephews, Delaney,McKenzie and Tori Croy, Jeremy Eary, Kris and Zachory Croy.

Randy Elvin Gummelt

Randy Elvin Gummelt passed from multiple severe organ failures on Sunday, Oct. 12, 2014, at 4 p.m., in the Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha. Services were held Saturday, Oct. 18, at Clifton Funeral Home. Gummelt was born on Feb. 4, 1951, in Bruceville, the son of Luther James and Minniegene Gummelt. He was a 1969 graduate of Clifton High School. He enlisted in the United States Air Force at age 19 and served during the Vietnam war. He helped build the Comanche Peak nuclear power plant in Glen Rose. As a scaffold buildinger, he was the first worker there and the last to leave. After construction was complete he began to travel to other nuclear facilities as an outage worker. His home away from home was the Cooper Nuclear plant in Brownsville, NE. He enjoyed racing and working on his cars. He once held the world’s record for fastest “Y-block” 292.

Dorothy Cleo Jones Scott

Graveside services for Dorothy Cleo Jones Scott were held Saturday, Oct. 18, 2014 in Clifton Cemetery conducted by the Rev. Reed Justice. She passed away on Oct. 13, 2014, from complications related to heart disease. She was born on Nov. 9, 1921, on her family farm near Clifton where she spent the early years of her life, and later at their residence in Clifton. She was the daughter of Sam Davis Jones and Elsie Mae Jeanes Jones, whose families date back to colonial Virginia. She was the second of three children, older brother Omer and younger sister, Joanne. Her mother Elsie advised her and supported her in obtaining an education, stating, an education is of great value and cannot be taken from you. She graduated from Clifton High School in 1939, as the homecoming queen and served on the school yearbook staff, “The Cub.” After graduating from Clifton College she accepted a position as a dental hygienist at Randolph Air Force Base near San Antonio.

Frances Wiggs

Frances Wiggs, 81, of Frisco, passed away on Oct. 10, 2014. Funeral services were held Wednesday, Oct. 15, at Clifton Funeral Home. Interment followed at Smith Bend-Coon Creek Cemetery in Laguna Park. She was born on Feb. 5, 1933, in Eden, to Ada Ruby Carter and J.P. Bland. On Dec. 16, 1950, she married O.C. Carl Price in Lemesa. The couple had three children. She was a homemaker. Later in life, she attended Tarrant County Junior College where she graduated with a Associate in Accounting. On June 30, 1988, in Roanoke, she married William Richard Wiggs. She was a very gracious lady. It did not matter to her if you were related by blood or part of her extended family, she treated everyone with the same amount of love and kindness.
