James Landon Smith

Memorial services for James Landon Smith, 40, will be held Saturday, May 30, at 1 p.m. at Covenant Presbyterian Church in Sherman, TX. He was born on April 4, 1975, in Garland, and passed away on May 17, 2015 in Clifton. He is survived by his wife, Donnita Smith of Denison; children, Cynthia Smith, 11; Abby Logston, 17 and fiancé John Petty; and Robert Logston, 19, all of Denison; his parents, Daisie Jean Lunday and husband, Mike, of Clifton; James E. Smith and Wife Barbara of Woodstock, GA; sister, Lisa Boatman and husband, Kenny of Robinson; brothers, Donald Smith and wife Debbie of Comanche, OK; Kevin Smith of Lawton, OK; Danny Smith and wife, Jennifer of Sherman; Mikie Lunday and Nathan Lunday both of Red Oak; one grandchild and many aunts and uncles, and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Garland and Louise Patton; Jimmy E. and Eula May Smith.

D. D. Morris

D.D. “Don” Morris 89 of Waco, passed away May 16, 2015. A  raveside Service was held at 1:30 p.m., Tuesday, May 19, 2015 at CliftonMemorial Park with Rev. Brian McQuiggin officiating. Donald Duard Morris was born June 13, 1925 in Weir, Kansas to William and Daisy Morris. In 1946, he married Betty Lou Wooten, They had two children, Ronna and Jaime. He operated, managed, and owned finance companies in Houston, Palestine, and Waco during his career. He owned City Finance in Waco for 25 years prior to his retirement at the age of 67. During his years at City Finance he particularly enjoyed morning coffee breaks with other local businessmen in downtown Waco discussing all the important matters of the day. These guys were great friends to Don. His favorite hobbies included fishing and travel, as well

Earlene Baker Johnson

Earlene Baker Johnson, age 94, of Hewitt, Texas and a former long time resident of Walnut Springs, passed away early  Wednesday morning at a Hewitt nursing facility. Funeral services were held on Saturday, May 9, 2015 at 10:30 A.M., at the Walnut Springs Baptist Church with Brady Dempsey officiating. Burial followed at the Oak Grove Cemetery in Walnut Springs. The visitation was Friday, May 8, 2015 at Lawson Funeral Home in Meridian. Mrs. Johnson’s pallbearers were: Wayne Blue, Bryant Eddy, Mike Huffman, Bryce Bartlett, Brady Dempsey, Jerry Caldwell, Charles Gilbreath, and Lonnie Halbert. Mrs. Johnson is survived by her daughter, Brenda Mosier and husband, Emmett, of Hewitt; grandson, Matt Mosier and wife, Erin, of Norman, Oklahoma; great-grandsons, Cade and Carter; great-granddaughter, Cambrie Mae;
step-son: Warren Johnson and wife, Susan; step-granddaughter, Rebecca Bartlett and husband, Bryce, and son

Shirley Barker McPherson

Services were conducted at the First Baptist Church of Clifton for Shirley McPherson, 79, on Saturday, May 2, 2015. Dr. Jerry Smith will be leading in the service with Clifton Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. Shirley Barker was born on July 16, 1935 in Dallas, Texas. She was an only child born to Cecil and Travis “Honey”  Barker. She grew up primarily in the Waco area and attended Waco schools, graduating from Waco High School. She met L.E. Mac McPherson, a young Air Force flyboy, while he was stationed in San Antonio. A courtship followed, and they were married on April 7, 1953 at Calvary Baptist Church in Waco.  This occurred prior to her graduation from High School. The young couple moved numerous times in their lifetime due to Mac’s work as computer data analyst. The couple made their homes in Arizona, Florida, Texas, Oklahoma and Washington State. Two sons were born to their marriage Gary and Bruce.
