Richard Sexton

Richard Sexton 55, of Aquilla, passed away on Friday, Oct. 18, 2013. Funeral services will be held at 4 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 23, 2013, at Marshall and Marshall Funeral Directors Chapel in Whitney with Rev. Darrell Wallace officiating. Burial will follow at Clifton Memorial Park, in Clifton, Texas. Richard was born on July 3, 1958, in Texas City, to Lloyd James Sr. and Joyce Faylene (Pilant) Sexton. On Aug. 20, 1977, he married Karen Kelley in Clifton. Richard enjoyed spending time with his sons and grandchildren who meant the world to him. He and his sons enjoyed competing in barbeque cook-offs. Some of Richards favorite pastimes were fishing and watching football, especially the Dallas Cowboys. Richard was employed by

Shirley Fay Davidson

Shirley Fay Davidson, 76, beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away Friday, Oct. 11, 2013 in Ft. Worth. Funeral Services were held Monday, Oct. 14, at White’s Funeral Chapel in Azle. Interment was at Ash Creek Cemetery. Shirley Hill was born April 26, 1937 in Stigler, OK to the late Elmer and Linnie Hill. Before moving to Azle fifteen years ago, she was a long term California resident. A retired office manager, Shirley was a member of the Silver Sneakers at the Lake Worth YMCA. She attended the First Baptist Church of Azle. She is preceded in death by her husband, Samuel Davidson; parents; two sisters, and four brothers. Survivors include her son, Mike Davidson and wife, D’Andra; daughters, Shelley Skaggs, and Terri Davidson; grandchildren, Kindra, Ashley, DeAnn, Justin, Jessica, Amanda, and Haley; great-grandchildren; Scarlet Rose, Layne, and Gage; sister, Deanna Adams; beloved companion, Benji; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Mavis Dale Holverson

Funeral services for Mavis Dale Holverson, 65, were held Sunday, Oct. 20, 2013, in Grace Memorial Baptist Church with Pastor Don McCollum officiating. Burial was in Clifton Cemetery. She passed away on Oct. 17, in Houston. She was born on Feb. 18, 1948, in Excel, AL, to James Robert Jordan and Ila Daisy Defee Jordan. She first married Robert Laverne Legg. He preceded her in death on Nov. 12, 1978. She married John Wynn Halverson on March 24, 1979 in Pittsburg, TX. She had five children, Laura Lynn Allison, Robert Lawrence Legg, Jimmy Dale Legg, Jodie Leigh Mauzy, and Cliff Jordan Holverson. She was a house wife and a member of the Nazarene church. She enjoyed cooking and focused on her family. Suvivores include her husband, John Halverson; her five children; 13 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Robert E. Avirett

 

Robert E. Avirett, age 62, of The Woodlands, Texas, passed away Wednesday, June 26, 2013 at St. Luke's of The Woodlands Hospital in The Woodlands.

Funeral services were held Saturday, June 29 at the First Baptist Church in Meridian, with Rev. Richard Creech officiating. Interment was in the Meridian Cemetery.

Pallbearers were his son, Robert Avirett, Jr., and friends.

Mr. Avirett was born Aug. 26, 1950 in San Benito, Texas to Robert R. Avirett and Juanita Marie Barnum Avirett. The Avirett family moved to Meridian where Robert grew up and graduated from Meridian High School. After graduation he attended college, graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree, and later went to work as a cost estimator for an oil company.

Funeral services for James David Bergman, 81, were held Sunday, July 14, 2013, at Trinity Lutheran Church with Pastor Alicia Thompson-Summers. Interment was at the Rock Church.

James Bergman passed away on Thursday, July 11, 2013 at the Bergman Farm at Norse. He was born on Jan. 27, 1932, at the Bergman Farm, to Milton and Claris Bergman.

He attended Clifton schools and Clifton Jr. College.

On Dec. 13, 1957, he married Mina Faye Sorenson. The couple had four children. They lived in Clifton for two years, and the Bergman Farm for 57 years. He was a farmer. He was a member of the Neils Creek Wildlife Management Association. He enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was a member of the National Guard.

Lucille Bonner, 97, of Valley Mills passed away July 11, 2013, in Burleson. Funeral services are Wednesday, July 17, at 10 a.m. at the Valley Mills First Baptist Church. Interment will be at the Smith Bend-Coon Creek Cemetery under the direction of Foss Funeral Home of Valley Mills.

Lucille Mallory was born on Oct. 22, 1915, in Moody, to Richard and Myrtis Payne Mallory. She was married to James R. Bonner in 1937. He preceded her in death in 1980.

She formerly worked for Rio Grand National Insurance Company. She was a tax clerk and retired from Bosque County Tax Office. She was a member of the Valley Mills First Baptist Church.

Obit Davenport

Robert George Davenport

 

The Rev. Robert George Davenport, 87, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on July 13, 2013, after a long and courageous battle with cancer. He was a kind and loving husband, father, brother, grandfather, neighbor, and friend and a blessing to everyone who knew him.

Davenport was born on Nov. 29, 1925 in Weatherford, to George Forest Davenport and Bernice (Trotter) Davenport. He served in the U.S. Navy in the South Pacific before returning to the United States, where he raised his family and worked as a truck driver in Dallas for many years.

He surrendered to the ministry in 1972, and later moved to Laguna Park. Bro. D built Rehoboth Full Gospel Church in Clifton in 1979, and ministered there until his retirement.

Harold Kelsey Hill

 

A graveside memorial service for Harold Kelsey “Bud” Hill, 86, will be held at Clifton Cemetery on Saturday, July 20, 2013 at 11 a.m.

Bud Hill was born and raised in Clifton. He graduated from Clifton High School and the University of Texas at Austin with a journalism degree. After college he moved to Denver, CO and established a very successful antique business, McKinley & Hill Antiqu4s, which he managed until his death.

He was a very fun loving and generous man, loved by many friends and family. Until the last few years, he came home to Clifton every September for the annual Hill Dove Hunt and celebration.
