Matilda R. Rice

Matilda R. Rice, age 97, of Meridian, passed away Tuesday morning, Nov. 25, 2014, in a Clifton nursing facility. Funeral services were held Saturday, Nov. 29, 2014, in the Meridian First United Pentecostal Church with Joe Huffman, Greg Hardin and Tim Kelley officiating. Burial will follow in the Oak Grove Cemetery in Walnut Springs. Serving as pallbearers will be William C. Rice, Jr., Shane Rice, Jay Brown, Christopher Rice, Curtis Rice, Glenn Cogburn, Randy Rice and Tyler Stubbs. Matilda was born Aug. 20, 1917, near Cranfills Gap, Texas. She married Hubert G. Rice on June 16, 1934, in Walnut Springs, Texas, and he preceded her in death on Aug. 2, 1998. She was a homemaker and a very active and faithful member of the United Pentecostal Church in Meridian. She is survived by her children, Thelma L. White and husband, Gerald, of Lincoln, NE, William C. Rice, Sr. and wife, Marcia Jean, of Clifton, Rebekah J. Elmore and husband, Nathan, of Arlington, Susan L.

Carmel Woosley

Carmel “Carmen” Woosley, age 66, of Meridian, passed away on Wednesday, Nov. 19, 2014 at her residence. Funeral Services were held Monday, Nov. 24, 2014 at the Bosque County Cowboy Church between Meridian and Clifton on SH # 6 with Tater Paschal, Henry Cortez, and Rudy Cortez officiating. Interment was in the Meridian Memorial Cemetery. Pallbearers were Manuel Villarreal Jr., Martin Del Bosque, Valentin Cerna, Gonzalo Cerna, Adam Sanchez, Ben Rodriguez. Carmel Martinez was born on Aug. 19, 1948 in Mathis to Gilberto and Matea Olivarez Martinez. She worked as a seamstress for several years for Walls in Clifton worked as a self employed seamstress and later for Zapata’s Restaurant in Meridian. She was a member of the Bosque County Cowboy Church.

Annie Nell Terrell

Funeral services for Annie Nell “Kelley” Terrell of Clifton were held Wednesday, Nov. 26, 2014 at the Grand Old Gospel Lighthouse Church with Brother Welton Watson officiating. Burial was at Clifton Cemetery. Annie Nell Kelley was born on June 26, 1938, to Bearey and Nellie Kelley. She passed away on Nov. 22, 2014. She was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth Terrell, her father and mother, four brothers, four sisters, and three grandchildren. She is survived by her daughter, Rhonda Fields and husband, Kennth of Fitch; Kenneth Terrell Jr. and wife, Rhonda of Meridian, Danny Crouch and wife, Deborah of Clifton, Jackie “Sam” Crouch of Clifton, Roy Crouch of Gatesville and James Crouch of Clifton; two brothers, Charles Kelleyof Grandbury and Harvey Kelley and wife, Mickie of  Gatesville; 13 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren, along with numerous nieces, nephews, and many friends.

Bryan Mark Adams

Bryan Mark Adams, of Vancouver, WA, passed away peacefully at home on Nov. 27, 2014. Bryan was born in Laramie, WY on June 18, 1963. Bryan was a Computer Programer with his own business, Dynamis Web Design. He graduated from Brazosport High School, Lake Jackson, Texas and served in the United States Navy as an Electronics Technician and was Honorably discharged. Bryan attended Galveston College, Galveston, Texas and graduated from Texas State Technical College, Waco, Texas. He was a Computer Programer for Central Freight Lines, Waco, Texas for five years. Bryan moved to Vancouver, Washington in April 2006. Bryan is survived by Shawn Michael Daniels, spouse and Life Partner; son, Dallas Napps and wife, Melissa; adoptive father George Etter IV; parents Donna and Bill Grimes, Houston; Bryan and Vicky Adams, Clute; sisters, Mickye Adams, Sasha Adams Tarrant, and Jai-Cheri Adams Young; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Following his instructions Bryan will be cremated.

Peggy Inez Snow

Peggy Inez Snow, age 67, of Waco, passed away Saturday in Waco. Graveside service were Wednesday, Nov. 19, 2014, at Oakwood Cemetery under the direction of Foss Funeral Home & Cremation Center. Peggy was born Jan. 22, 1947, in Mesa, AZ. She was the daughter of William F. and Betty Jane (Anders) Womack. Peggy’s dad was in the military and the family was able to live in several different states. She was a truck driver and after retiring from that career she became a care giver. Peggy loved cats. She even had them engraved on her monument.

Marie Harbert

Marie Harbert, 93, Springfield MO passed away Thursday, Nov. 13, 2014 in Mercy Hospital. She was born March 28, 1921 in Hamilton County, Texas, the daughter of James Samuel and Mary Jane Adams. In 2001 Marie moved to Springfield with her husband to be closer to family. She loved gardening and enjoyed being with her grandsons and their families. Marie was a member of Seminole Baptist Temple. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband, David Lee Harbert; eight siblings; and her son-in-law, Bob Ruff. Marie is survived by her daughter, Yvonne Ruff; son, John Wayne Bryan; three grandsons and their wives, Troy and Becky Ruff, Todd and Karen Ruff and Robert and Terry Ruff; nine great-grandchildren; nine great-great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held Friday, Nov. 21, 2014 in Gorman- Scharpf Funeral Home with Pastor Mel Brown officiating. Burial followed in Maple Park Cemetery.

James Samuel Amondson

James Samuel Amundson, 89, of Clifton, passed away Tuesday morning, Nov. 18, 2014, at Goodall-Witcher Hospital in Clifton. Memorial services were held Sunday, Nov. 23, 2014, at Trinity Lutheran Cemetery, Clifton. He was born on July 25, 1925, in Clifton, to Adolph and Alvina Grimm Amundson. He attended schools in Clifton before joining the Army. He served his country during World War II as a medic in the Medical Detachment 415th Infantry. He worked for the BNSF railroad in Temple until his retirement. After he retired, he spent much of his time visiting family and friends. He was baptized and confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church in Clifton. He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Alice Landua; and brothers, Jodie, Alton, Raymond, Irving, David, Alfred, Daniel and John. He is survived by many nephews and nieces; great nephews and nieces, and great-great nephews and nieces.

Jewell Edna Witcher Stiver

Jewell Witcher Stiver, 100, passed away on November 10, 2014. Memorial services were held Thursday, Nov. 13, at Seventh and James Baptist Church, preceded by private family burial at Oakwood Cemetery. Jewell was born in Walnut Springs, the first daughter of J.M. and Rachel Witcher. Jewell grew up in Gatesville and was educated in the Gatesville schools. She graduated from Southwest Texas Teacher’s College in San Marcos in 1938, after which she taught school two years at The Flat. Jewell moved to Clifton and taught school there from 1940-1943. During the war, Jewell met Edward Noble Stiver, who was stationed at Fort Hood, and they married on April 3, 1943. Jewell and Edward were married for over 62 years at the time of his death in 2005. They made their home and raised their family in the modest surroundings of Athens Avenue. Jewell’s calling in life was to be a homemaker. She was proud of this calling and she worked very hard to fulfill all the responsibilities of the job.

Don C. Armour

Don C. Armour, 86, of Kopperl, passed away Thursday morning, Nov. 13, 2014 at his residence in Kopperl. Funeral services were held Saturday, Nov. 15, 2014 at the Kopperl First Baptist Church with Jason Armour and the Rev. Michael Martin officiating. Interment followed at the Kimball Cemetery, near Kopperl. Pallbearers were Joseph Armour, Jason Armour, Chris Armour, Brandon Cruz, Josh Hale, Paul Box, and David Hair. Don Carlton Armour was born April 24, 1928 in Trent, Texas to John S. Armour and Ethel Smith Armour. After finishing school he met and married Dorothy Maxine Goodwin on May 20, 1945 in Plainview. Mr. Armour became an electrician and was employed with a fiberglass manufacturing company before his retirement. He and Dorothy were active and faithful members of the Kopperl First Baptist Church.

James Matthew Hubbard

James Matthew Hubbard, age 27, who resided in Laguna Park on Lake Whitney, passed away on Tuesday, Oct. 21, 2014, at his residence. A memorial service to honor James and express love, respect and heartfelt sympathy to his family was held at 1:30 P.M., Saturday, Nov. 15, 2014, at Hillsboro Church of Christ. James was born July 4, 1987, in Waco. He was a concrete finisher. James was the son of Stephanie Smallwood Hubbard of Laguna Park and Bobby Gene Hubbard of Whitney; brother of John Daniel Hubbard of Clifton and was the grandson of Donna Dennis of Laguna Park. The tragic and untimely death of James as been devastating to his family and left them with heavy hearts. They appreciate so much the love and support already extended to them. Please come and join them and surround them with your presence as they honor the young man they loved so dearly.
