Cecil Bekkelund, 85, of Clifton, passed away on Saturday, Aug. 2, 2014. Funeral services were held Tuesday, Aug. 5, at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church at Norse. Burial followed in the Norse Cemetery. Bekkelund was born on Aug. 9, 1928, in Clifton, to Simon and Gina Smith Bekkelund. He attended school in Clifton and married Bobbye Parramore on Dec. 30, 1950. He served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War. Upon being discharged, he returned home and became a plumber apprentice with Mont Young and later started Bekkelund and Sons Plumbing. He continued to work the family farm while running the plumbing business. Bekkelund was a member of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church at Norse. He was also past Commander of the Clifton VFW Post 8553 and the American Legion Post 422. He was preceded in death by his parents; three older brothers; two sisters; and his wife of 61 years. Survivors include his sons, Bobby Ray and wife, Dianne, Buddy and wife, Susan, Johnny and wife, Gaye Lynn, Terry and wife, Elisa; grandchildren, Keith Bekkelund and wife, Summer; Lana Ferguson and husband, Mark, Trisha Bekkelund, Amanda Nielson and husband, Brandon, Katy Brinkley and husband, Jason, Ameila Bekkelund and fiancé, Cole Hegefeld, Traci Phelps and husband, Luke; and great-grandchildren, Jacelynn, Austin, Karissa, Cloe, Alyssa, Madysen, Jacquelyn, and Finly; sister, Louise Lane; and sister-in-law, Edna Bekkelund. In lieu of flowers, the family asks for memorials to be sent to Our Savior’s Lutheran Church Cemetery Association, c/o DeeDee Johnson, 152 CR 4145, Clifton TX 76634. Clifton Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
