Retired Belgian Lt.Col. Emile Engels was but a young boy during World War II, but the sights and sounds of raging battle and artillery fire in and around his village of Warnach in the Belgian Ardennes in the Christmas week 1944, remain with him as if it were yesterday. For an audience of about 50 people, Engels recounted his very personal experiences regarding growing up during the war and specifically the “Battle of the Bulge,” in the Ardennes in his “Normandy to Bastogne, the Highway to Liberty,” presentation at the Meridian Civic Center Friday.
