A memorial service for Jody Ray Poe was held Saturday, May 10, at the home of S.L. and Mary Fielder, conducted by the Rev. Cleon Flannagan. Jody Ray Poe was born on June 23, 1967, to Vernon Lee Poe and Mary Sue Hammond at Goodall-Witcher Hospital. He passed away on Saturday, May 3, 2014. He was fortunate in finding his one true love and he married Mary Beth Sero on April 15, 1995. They were blessed with Savannah Nicole on Aug. 19, 1997 and with Johnathan Ray on March 29, 1999. Johnathan passed away on April 17, 2010 at 11 years old. After Johnathan’s death, Jody moved his family to Clifton. He began working at Burger King on the evening shift. It wasn’t long before his customers and coworkers knew how friendly and generous he was. Early Saturday morning, May 3, he had what was probably a heart attack while getting ready for work. Despite the best efforts of the Goodall-Witcher emergency room staff, he passed away. He will be missed. Survivors include his wife, Mary Beth Poe; daughter, Savannah Nicole Poe; mother, Mary Fielder and S.L. Fielder; father Vernon Lee Poe and Madeline Poe; sisters, Julie Poe, Tracy Poe-King, and Veronica Brewer; and his life-long best friend, Tony Glenn Wilson. He is also survived by many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.
