Opening the 2014 Texas high school baseball season at home Monday night, the Meridian Yellowjackets greeted first-year head coach Robert Barber with a welcome gift - his 100th career victory as a head coach. The Jackets held off a persistent Abbott squad to post a season-opening 10-8 victory at Yellowjacket Field Monday night, giving Barber his first victory in Meridian, but his 100th as a head baseball coach. Sophomore Ethan Hightower started on the mound and delivered three solid innings while striking out six to earn the victory. Senior Nick Prestwood came in to relieve before freshman Bradley Wallace tossed two innings for the save.
