Barbara Nan McGehee Canuteson, 80, of Clifton passed away on Thursday, Jan. 9, 2014. Funeral services were held at Trinity Lutheran Church of Clifton on Sunday, Jan. 12, 2014 with Pastor Alicia Thompson-Summers officiating. Interment was at Our Savior’s Lutheran Cemetery at Norse. Barbara McGehee was born on Feb. 24, 1933, in Morgan to Grover Cleveland and Ethel Waller McGehee. She graduated from Morgan High School in 1949. She attended Clifton College where she met her future husband, Oren James “Tookie” Canuteson, Jr. They were married on Jan. 4, 1950 in Marlin. He passed away on March 29, 1981. She was employed at Walls Manufacturing from 1964-1993. To Barbara her faith, family, and friends were her life and they shared her love. Her family would tell you that if you knew “Mimi,” you knew unconditional love. Her smile and laughter were contagious and she once said, “A smile is the least I can give to someone.” The family motto has always been, Live Well, Laugh Often, and Love Much. She played basketball in high school and had a love for all kinds of sports. She started playing golf in the early 1970’s and was the first winner of the Bosque Valley Ladies Tournament. She had two holes-in-one in her life and her favorite course was the Inn of the Mountain Gods in Ruidiso, NM. She also loved watching the Dallas Cowboys and Texas Aggies. She attended many sporting events at Clifton High School even after her family graduated and she was honored at a Pep Rally a few years ago by the CHS volleyball team. She also had a sharp mind for politics, current events, and like to discuss what was happening in the world. She had a sharp wit and a keen eye and enjoyed discussing and debating a multitude of topics. She also had a fascination for high profile trials and their outcomes and spent some of her retirement years going to local trials around Waco. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church of Clifton. She was preceded in death by her parents, Grover and Ethel McGehee; and her husband, Oren James “Tookie” Canuteson, Jr. She is survived by son, Jim and wife, Deborah Canuteson of Clifton; daughter Caryn and husband Larry Patterson of Highland Village; son, Pat and wife, Karen Canuteson of Carrollton; daughters, and daughter Lynn Bottlinger of McKinney; 10 grandchildren, and 15 great-grandchildren with another expected on the way in May; brother-in-law Dr. John Canuteson and wife, Muffett of Liberty, MO; and she will be missed by a large host of relatives and friends. Pallbearers included Wade Canuteson, Jared Canuteson, Garrett Bottlinger, Weston Caunteson, Josh Canuteson, and Joe Wallace.
