Garland Dwain Murphree 72, of Meridian, Texas passed away Monday Dec. 2, 2013 in Burleson, Texas. Funeral Services were held Thursday, Dec. 5, 2013 in the Lawson Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Herb Lammert officiating. Internment was in the St. Olaf Lutheran Cemetery (Rock Church) near Cranfills Gap. Pallbearers were James Barker, Ty Murphree, Nathan Burkhart, Jody Hays, David Dagley and Don Gaston. Murphree was born Oct. 30, 1941 in Cranfills Gap, where he was raised and educated. He worked as an electrician most of his life, working for Santa Fe Railroad and electrical local contractors. Garland was a member of the St. Olaf Lutheran Church in Cranfills Gap. Murphree is survived by his children, Holly Gates and husband, Clayton of Burleson, and Clovis Dwain Murphree and wife, Cindy of Burleson; grandchildren, Justin Gates, Levi Gates, Colton Gates, Summer Burkhart and Ty Murphree; great-grandchildren, Audrey Gates, Caden Gates, Carsen Gates, Landon Gates and Knox Burnhart; sister, Kathy Johnson of Hawkins; brother, Clinton Murphree of Hawkins, Texas and a number of nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. Memorials may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project P.O. Box 758541 Topeka, Kansas 66675. Condolences may be sent to the family at lawsonfuneralhome.net.
