Lucy Marie McCollum McMurray
Lucy Marie McCollum McMurray, age 93, of Meridian, passed away Saturday, July 6, 2013, in the Lutheran Sunset Home in Clifton.
Graveside services were held Saturday, July 13, in the Meridian Cemetery with Rev. Richard Creech and Dr. Jerry Smith officiating.
She was a daughter of Lloyd and Bessie Marie Jenkins McCollum, born on March 22, 1920, in Waco, where she was raised and educated.
On March 27, 1938, she was united in marriage to J. L. "Mac" McMurray in Waco and enjoyed over 69 years of marriage until his death on Sept. 7, 2007. She worked as a secretary for Rev. M. L. Rhodes and later as a secretary for several physicians for 20 years. In the early 1970's, she and her husband moved and built their home near Meridian. Lucy was a long time and faithful member of the Baptist Church and was presently a member of the Clifton First Baptist Church.
She is survived by a daughter, Linda Welch of College Station; a son, Larry Ross McMurray and his wife, Neysa, of Meridian; grandchildren, Preston McMurray and wife, Crystal, of Meridian, Hayden McMurray and wife, Donna, of College Station, Twalla Thomas and husband, Toby, of Clifton, Jennifer Welch Duhon of Waller and Zurich, Jeffery Wade Welch and wife, Chandra, of Katy; great-grandchildren, Dakotta Thomas, Tanner Thomas, Larrett Thomas, Reagan Thomas, Marli McMurray, Taylor Welch, Ashtyn Welch, Crista Smith, and Meagan McMurray; a sister, Mary Frances Meador of Waco; number of other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Lloyd and Bessie McCollum; her husband, J. L. McMurray; brothers, Jack and Bob McCollum; a great-grandson, Mason McMurray; son-in-law, Bob Welch; brother-in-law, Burt Meador; sisters-in-law, Louise McCollum and Margarite McCollum.
Pallbearers were Preston McMurray, Hayden McMurray, Jeffery Welch, Toby Thomas, Dakotta Thomas, Tanner Thomas, Burt Meador, and Larrett Thomas.
