Marvin J. (Mack) McClure, age 82, of Iredell, passed away Thursday, March 21, 2013, in the Clifton Lutheran Sunset Home after an extended illness. A memorial service was held Thursday, March 28, 2013, in the Mitchell Cemetery in Iredell with Rev. Don Caldwell and Bradley Fletcher officiating. Mack, as he was known by all his family and many friends, was born March 30, 1930, in St. Louis, Missouri, to the late Edward F. and Margaret Crump McClure. While a child, the family relocated to Washington D.C. They later bought land in Maryland and built their home. He entered the U. S. Army at the age of 17 and served until April of 1955. Upon his return from Korea, Mack was stationed at Ft. Hood, Texas and it was there that he met Nancy Strange and they were married April 23, 1955, in Iredell. On July 7, 1956, their only son, Dickie Mack McClure, was born. Mack worked as a heavy equipment mechanic and the young family lived in various locations in Texas until settling in Meridian in the early 1960’s and then to Iredell in the 1970’s. He worked for a propane gas company before beginning work with the County of Bosque Road Maintenance Department. He later worked with his wife in managing a convenience store in Iredell. He was preceded in death by a son, Dickie Mack McClure, Sr., on October 14, 2007; his parents, Margaret and Edward McClure, Sr.; sister, Elinor Mudd and a brother, Edward F. McClure, Jr. His survivors include his wife, Nancy McClure, of Iredell; grandchildren, Chad McClure and wife, Ashley of Iredell and Dickie Mack McClure, Jr.and wife, Julie of Iredell; great-grandchildren Claudia McClure, Hannah McClure, Ashton McClure, Dylan McClure, Lacey McClure and Justin McClure; brother, Eugene A. McClure and his wife, Kay, of Maryland; sister, Merva Underwood of Maryland; sister-in-law, Rebecca Strange of Lake Whitney and a number of nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives and friends.
